Help!!! Scotland final itinerary plan

My daughter and I will be spending four days in Ireland before flying to Edinburgh on Aug 25. We will arrive in Edinburgh at about noon, and plan to sight see that afternoon and the following two days. On Tuesday, Aug 28 we will rent a car and leave Edinburgh. We will have Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to spend in Scotland before leaving from Edinburgh on Friday morning (Aug 31). Here are two itineraries that I am considering and would like any input and advice. I have read some of the itinerary advice, as well as a trip report and have put these two itineraries together. I feel the guide books fall a little short on giving itinerary advice/tips. Also, I wonder what is the best road map to use for Scotland?

Here are the two itineraries:

Alternative Number 1:
Tuesday-leave EDI, drive to Stirling & see the sights, leave Stirling at about 3 - 4 pm and drive to Loch Lomond where we will spend the night.

Wednesday: Take the scenic drive to Oban from Loch Lomond (A 82 north to A83 toward Inveraray and Lochgilphead, on to Oban on A816). I understand this will take about 3 hours. I don't know if there would be good places to stop along the way. Once in Oban, we would do a distillery tour and eat dinner.

Thursday: Leave Oban and go to Glencoe and Fort William. Drive to Callander to spend the night (leave for EDI on Friday morning).

Alternative Number 2:
Tuesday: Leave EDI, drive directly to Oban via Loch Lomond (this would take us through Glasgow, and I am wondering what the traffic would be like around Glasgow). In Oban we would do the distillery tour and eat dinner. (Spend the night in Oban).

Wednesday: Visit the Islands of Mull and Iona (spend the night in Oban).

Thursday: Leave Oban and drive to Glencoe, then on to Stirling. Stay the night in Stirling and leave for EDI on Friday morning.

Thanks so much for helping me out. Planning these last three days of the trip have been difficult, and I feel some urgency to make decisions since the trip is less than three weeks away!
