Help needed! Travelling on Saturday flying in and out of Rome 8 nights

Hi everyone,

I am hoping for some much needed help regarding mine and my boyfriends trip, we are both in our late twenties and this will be our first trip to Italy.I have flights booked flying in and out of Rome, arriving on this Saturday at 11am and departing the following Sunday at 12 noon.

Yes....I know I have left it very late to sort this out, I've had the flights booked since last August but am very indecisive! I keep booking hotels on booking.com then cancelling them.

My plan up to now was to go straight to Sorrento and spend 5 nights there, see Capri, Mount Vesuvious, Naples etc then head over to Rome for the last 3 nights. I'm now having doubts about this as I've had a few people saying to me that Sorrento doesn't have that much going on and not really that much to do and see. I'm now considering Venice/Florence then Rome. I don't know!!!!

We want to enjoy great food and have lots to do in terms of sightseeing but are not too fussed about museums. We are not bothered at all for a beach aspect of the holiday as my boyfriend gets bored easily with this. It's also my boyfriends 30th birthday while we are there so I would like to do something special on that day. We are looking for a 3/4 star hotel, as long as it has breakfast, wifi and is clean that will suit us.

We are happy to get trains and use public transport and our budget is £2500 maximum.

I would appreciate any help you could give me as I am starting to get a little stressed!

Thanks
Laura

When are you travelling? Sorrento is a very popular destination and will be very busy and has tonnes of things to do (Pompeii, Naples, Amalfi Coast, Capri, Ischia...) unless you are travelling in say Jan! Can't imagine why someone would say there isn't much to see or do! I think your plan is a good one but may spend an extra day in Rome over Sorrento, but that is just me!

Laura, your first plan would give you plenty to do. Sorrento isn't my favorite place in Italy, but with all the nearby attractions, how bad can it be?

Venice, Florence and Rome in 8 nights is very fast for a first trip. Florence is a museum heavy city, and while Rome has endless attractions, it is also full of endless museums.

I think you may have been right on with your first plan. If you stay in the heart of Sorrento, you'll have more evening choices. Maybe Capri will be the birthday day? I'd like to go to Capri for my birthday.

Would you cut it down to 4 and 4? That way you could use a day in Rome for a nice day trip. There are so many.

Remember that you will have a great time no matter which plan you stick with. Just stick with one!

you are already in route but if you are still flexible: either is a good trip but if this the FIRST time to italy.
arrive rome, recover from jet lag, thousands of things to choose from in rome
fast train to florence takes just over an hr. you could even stop at a town for a quick look going north: orvieto, spoleto, assisi, just not many places to leave luggage.
florence: i have lived there before and it is wonderful many art sites to see but i prefer walking the streets int he neighborhoods
easy train to venice from florence but think of stopping in blogona for lunch, yes i said stop for lunch....i have been to italy dzs of times and have NEVER HAD BETTER FOOD. then on to venice.....unlink anything esle. see the fb page for the only woman gondolier, or contact gloria for an italian lesson while cooking at her house, or walk endlessly and then take the boat bus to any of the islands...... it shall be a great time.... for contacts in venice and a tour guide in bologna, see their info on home to italy blog enjoy

This Saturday? I would definitely stick to your original plan...you won't be disappointed and you certainly will not run out of things to do or see!

Yes, this Saturday Thanks for your replies, I think I am going to stick to the original plan but split it 4 and 4.
