Help Needed For Palermo ASAP, Please

I leave Memorial Day for Rome, AC and Sicily. My arrangements in Palermo have fallen through. I would like to know if anyone can recommend a guide/driver for a day in Palermo. I would also appreciate restaurant recommedations.

Thank you,
Les

I am in the same position, but my needs are not as urgent. The last message from iamles says "ttt". What does that mean?

Anyway, if you get any leads I'd sure appreciate if you'd share them with me. Thanks.

ttt means "to the top" and was an attempt by iamles to bring that post back to the top to get a quick answer back in May when it was "urgent". Unfortunately as you can see, it's been 3 months and no one had any information to offer.
On the other hand, if looking for restaurant suggestions in Palermo, you can do a search here entering "Palermo restaurants" and Italy in the search function and you'll find a number of posts of suggestions. I've added to those myself.

I certainly wish that someone would respond to the question of a recommendation for a driver/guide for Palermo and/or in Taormina. My husband and I are going next May, but are making all of our plans at this time. I hate to have him drive as he doesn't get to enjoy the scenery and it can get to be a white knuckle situation at times. We took a fabulous guided day trip out of Venice last year with a group of only 6 others. Knowing the Venato like the back of his hand, he was able to get us in and out of places we would have never seen on our own. SOOO, any help in Sicily would be much appreciated.

Thank you!!!

Les,

If you love seafood, do not leave Palermo without a meal at CIN-CIN. My husband and I were in ecstasy over this place. Tell the owner/manager that Betty and Giorgio from NYC sent you!

Pam, I get the impression you're not into doing searches, so I did one for you. Entering "private guide in Sicily" and clicking Italy here, I found a ton of posts, but mostly not a lot of specific help. You might go to the effort if you really want a few comments or recommendations, as there were a couple recommendations. Finding a guide in Sicily is obviously not so easy as finding one somewhere like Rome.
Where are you staying? Once you know that, I suggest you contact your hotel. They will be the most likely people to put you in touch with one.
From the lack of response here, and on numerous other posts from the past couple years on this topic, it is obvious that there's not a lot of knowledge in this area.

Driving may not be as bad as you think. Two years ago we did a driving holiday, starting by driving from Catania airport to Taormina for a few days, then making our way via Siracusa, Ragusa, Piazza Armerina & Agrigento to Palermo. Apart from getting in to the towns, the roads were good & my husband positively enjoyed the driving. The one way system in Taormina is slightly worrying at first but there's really only one way you can go, there are signposts to all the hotels & the hotel staff took the car off our hands to park it for the duration of our stay there. When we arrived at our hotel in Palermo, which again was signposted, the hotel staff took the car back to the rental office for us for somehing like E20.

On a previous holiday where we had a driver for a couple of journeys, we found his presence intrusive.

If you are still looking for a "small-group-with-driver" solution for Sicily, perhaps you could start from the other direction: How did you make contact with the guide in the Veneto? Through your hotel? Through a local travel agency? Through a travel agency in the US? Using that as your method, try to do the same for Sicily.

When I was staying at an agriturismo near Siracusa in May 2004, I met a group of six people (three couples from Rome), who were traveling with a private guide-driver, whom they had hired in Sicily. But they were their own group, not a group put together out of three different couples, as I assume -- perhaps wrongly -- your group in the Veneto was.

In Sicily, you may have to hire a guide-driver for yourself and your husband alone.

Les and Pamela,
I forgot that I do know a group that helps with driving and tours in Sicily. They are called www.sicilylife.com
Alessandro and Sebastiano conduct personal tours throughout Sicily. However, they are based in Taormina so I don't know how expensive it would be for them to take you around Palermo. But you should definitely get in touch with them on their website and ASK! If they can't do it, maybe they can recommend someone. Ciao!

You folks never cease to amaze me with all of your suggestions and assistance. Many thanks!! I've got to spend more time doing searches, etc. I could spend hours on this web site alone. Everyone is so interesting and helpful. I am going to nail down exactly where we will be staying and then will be back for more restaurant suggestions; even though I don't think we have ever had a bad meal in Italy. Since I don't eat meat or poultry, I think I am going to do just fine in Sicily as compared to the Tuscany area where meat is king.

Again, many thanks!!
