Help - need advice on seat selection for intercity train AMS to BER

I am booking 2 tickets on DeBahn website and it asked for seat selection. I have looked at "Seat 61" plans and it shows both compartments and regular seating (more like airline/bus seating) for 2nd class on this route.
The choices for seats (as listed on the train site to purchase tickets) are: compartment type: open saloon, open saloon with table, and compartment.
then the "location of seat" options are: window across from each other and aisle across from each other.
I would prefer standard, non-compartment seating, but don't know how to indicate two seats next to each other.
Any ideas? anyone taken this train or understand how to make seat selection? I want to buy the tix ASAP as at 90 days and cheaper now....didn't realize seat selection would be an issue.
OR, can i buy tickets and come back to site to select seats? or change seats once i have them? thanks.
