I am going to Perugia regarding conference for a week. I have 3 days for visiting places nearby Perugia then i have return flight from Rome. I am interested in going to Venice,Pisa and Rome. I am confused regarding the route which cover all these places.Please help me regarding this such that i can cover all these places in 3 days.

well, I don't think that in 3 days you are going to see Rome, Pisa AND Venice.

in fact, if [as I surmise] you've not been to Rome before, I would just head off there from Perugia and enjoy the little bit of Rome that you'll be able to see in 3 days before you go home.

in case you doubt me, I looked at the trenitalia.com website. It will take at least 4 1/2 hours to get to Venice from Perugia; the earliest train arrives at 14.20. then you have to get to your accommodation, orient yourself, etc. You probably won't be out and about until after 4pm.

the next day you would have to get to Pisa - another 3 1/2 hours on the train travelling via Florence.

oops, posted too soon. on your last day you would need to get to Rome - another 3 hours on the train.

at a conservative estimate, to see all three involves approx 12 hours of train journeys, out of just 3 days. perhaps you can see why I'm suggesting just going to Rome.

Personally I would cut out Pisa right off the bat.

If you've dreamed of seeing Venice, you'll want to stay overnight, staying out late, getting out early, and then perhaps finding an express train to Rome.

An alternative -- Perugia is a nice base for exploring smaller towns (Assisi (see advice above & avoid mid-day crowd of daytrippers), for example). Don't miss the evening passagiata in Perugla, on the main (pedestrian) street.

Or, if you want to make a different stop, head south and see Orvieto on the way to Rome.

However, Perugia-Venice-Rome or Perugia-Rome, as annhig recommends, sounds good to me.

I can relate to your desire to see as much else as possible, and I personally love train travel, but you have a pretty ambitious plan there.

The way to do it is to go to Firenze from Perugia, put your luggage in the Firenze train station, continue on to Pisa and see Pisa, then return to Florence to spend the night, or take the train to Venice and spend the night.

If you are spending the night in Florence, take the train to Venice the next morning, put your luggage in the train station, tour Venice, then take the train to Rome.

As most of the above posts indicated, you do not have enough time to see Roma, Venice, and Pisa with only three days. You could stay in Perugia and do day trips to Assisi, Gubbio, and Orvieto. All can be reached by public bus or train and are nice destinations. We spent four nights in Perugia this past May and did day trips to Assisi and Gubbio.

Gubbio is one of my favorite hill towns and it is less touristy. They have a unique funicular to the top of Mt. Ubaldo. It is a round looking cage which you hop on and ride up and down. The mountain is about 2500 meters high with a few cafes and a cathedral with a pope encased in a glass coffin.

Do you want to visit "places nearby Perugia" (as you wrote above) or to you want to go to either Venice and Pisa or to Rome?

After reading all your suggestions i just made my own plan. plz suggest if it is possible.

Leaving to Pisa from Perugia around 10:00 AM.
on same day Leaving Pisa to Venice around 1:00 PM
Night halt at venice
Leaving venice around 1:00 PM and reaching Rome at 6:00PM.
Night Halt at Rome
next day Sight seeing in Rome.
And at evening fly back to home.

Now i have few questions regarding this if u please answer me..such as

1) I am just interested in seeing Leaning tower of pisa in Pisa. So is that can be done in 2-3 hr. ?
2) can we do sight seeing in the evening in Venice?
3) and can we get rail ticket on the spot from the ticket counter as its not possible for us to pre-book the tickets as our dates are flexible?

It is not possible to leave Perugia at 10am and see the Leaning Tower in Pisa and be on another train to Venice by 1pm. You need to leave Perugia earlier or take a later train to Venice. Unless you plan to carry your luggage with you while you sightsee, you need to make time to store it in the train station at Pisa and pick it up again. Unless you take a taxi to and from the tower, you will need 30 minutes to walk there from the train station and another 30 minutes to walk back.

If possible, leave Perugia the night before and spend the night in Florence or Pisa. But you need to get to Pisa as early as possible in the morning if you want to be on a train for Venice by 1pm.

You can see many beautiful streets and canals of Venice at night but after 19.30 you will not be able to get inside famous places except restaurants and cafes and a few shops. You can take a gondola ride at night but the water boats that people use like buses stop at midnight.

If you don't stay near the train station in Venice you might find it difficult to locate your hotel at night. Try to find a hotel that is very easy to walk to from the train station.

You can buy tickets at all the train stations from machines (they have foreign language options) or from the ticket sellers at the ticket counter (but many employees only speak Italian). It will save you time if you can buy all your tickets before you leave Perugia instead of doing it at 3 different train stations. I think you can also buy your tickets online anytime using your computer or smartphone and a credit card, but I am not sure. Check the website called Man in Seat 61.

You might want to leave on a later train from Venice and arrive in Rome later.

You will need to be very organized to do this, and you will probably have to eat a lot of bad sandwiches, and of course you will only get a snapshot of famous sights. But it is not impossible to spend some time in each of these places as a day trip if that is what you want to do.

is it advisable to take Hop-On Hop-Off bus for Sightseeing in Rome or other city in italy?????

It looks like you will have only one day in Rome. DO NOT spend it sitting on a bus looking out a window.

Pick the top 3 things you want to see do and just go do them. Get a good guide book (Michelin green is excellent with in-depth info) and use that.

And don;t cheat - you can't count Vatican City as one place - that alone counts as 3.

Much of the center of Rome is pedestrian only - no buses - so just go see your top 3 sights.

Please please please reconsider going to Venice for a morning only in August. You would get more of a feel for Venice in Las Vegas; I jest not. If you MUST go, avoid the HORDES between the Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. Instead, consider exploring a side sestiere--Dorsoduro, with its walk on the Zattere, its magnificent new Museo della Dogana, the Museo Accademia if it's not crowded, small side canals as you wish, the Campo Santa Margherita.

Also have you considered flying one way with Alitalia from Venice to Rome?

With Rome, if you go the the Vatican museum, money spent on a guide is an excellent investment.

ps I agree with Ann. Just go to Rome. Be sure not to miss my second favorite church in the world, Santa Maria di Trastevere. If you want to see the Michelangelo Pieta` in San Pietro, go between 7 and 8 in the morning while it is still a church and not yet an amusement park, or late afternoon between 5 and 6.

Go to the Capotoline Museum--much less crowded than the Vatican with knockout view of city from top floor cafe, start your days Early, eat lunch in air-conditioned restaurant, nap, and venture out again.

If "you" includes a woman, consider stopping at Blunauta near the Spanish Steps for amazing shopping.

i think that a sleeper train from venice to rome (or vice versa) would be your best shot at enjoying this trip. you will miss the scenery between the two, but it's so very convenient when time is extremely limited.

What ever aligeier will do, she/he will only se trains, buses, railway stations, hotel lobbies and may be airports and planes.
It doesn't make any sense to travel up to Pisa only for the tower and it makes even less sense to go all the way from there to Venice in order to visit this town just between 9am and noon. Idem for Rome.
Timetable that would cope with his/hers desires:
Perugia dp 9.53 - Pisa ar 13.28 - luggage in the lockers - visit tower - Pisa dp 17.12 - Venice SL ar 20.46 - transfer to hotel, ar 22.00
Breakfast at Venice, 2 hrs walk in the lanes around the hotel, check out, transfer to the train station, dp 13.25 - Roma T ar 17.10 - Transport to the hotel ar around 18.00
Brekfast at Rome. 4 hrs walk in the area around your hotel, lunch, check out, transfer to the airport.....
