help me find a central Tuscan town for my trip
I am going to be in Italy for a 9 day trip in last week of Sept, flying in and out of Milan. I am planning to do the following
From Milan go straight to Venice 3 days
Rent a car and go a central Tuscan town and do day trips to local towns including a long day in Florence. Spend 4 days in Tuscany
From there go to CT for last 2 days
Drive back to Milan, drop the car and fly back to Florida
I wanted to see if I can get some help with picking a central Tuscan town as my base. Thanks.

My vote would be for San Gimignano. It's a beautiful walled town, fairly central to Tuscany. We spent a week there. Some posters will complain that San G is too 'touristy'. The wonderful thing about staying there is that you'll be there in the morning and the evening, when the hordes of tourists have gone away. You'll have the place for yourselves - you'll love it!!!!!!!!

Thanks.. I went ahead and booked us in a agriturismo just outside of San Gimignano for four nights. I want to do a day trip to Florence, so that leaves us with 3 days before we head to CT. I would appreciate the valued input regarding fellow members' fav day trips, wine tasting, authentic little restaurants etc that are in the area. ciao

I went with Fattoria Voltrona (http://www.voltrona.com). It is 5 kilometers from San Gimignano
