Help: Lake District & Yorkshire Dales

Jump to last reply

I'm currently booked at a B & B 3 nights in Keswick (July 2014). I'm hoping to do a boat ride/ walk around Derwent Water, and also tour Dove Cottage (repeat visit), Rydal Mount, and Hill Top while in the area. Here's my dilemma: I didn't leave time for at least one overnight on the Yorkshire Dales. I'm realizing now this is probably a mistake.

Now concerned I won't have enough time in the Lakes. Any thoughts? Here is my current itinerary

Arrive Newcastle (one night)
Alnwick (2 nights at friends' house)
Keswick (3 nights)
Haworth (2 nights -- Parsonage visit and walk to Top Withins, Ponden Hall)
North York Moors (2 nights - Rosedale Abbey)
York (1 night)
Bakewell (3 nights - Peak District -- Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Hathersage)
Cotswolds (3 nights)
Castle Combe (3 nights - day trips to Bath, Stonehenge, Avebury)
Fowey (2 nights - Cornwall)
Dorchester (2 nights -- Hardy houses)
Alton (1 night - Jane Austen's home)
Newbury (2 nights - Highclere)

All hotels/ B & Bs are booked. I would want to make minimal changes at this point.

Up to this point I had planned to take a day-long drive through the Yorkshire Dales to get from Keswick to Haworth. Stopping for an overnight, and including one walk, sounds good to me.
