Help in London

Hello to all, I'll be going on a business trip to Germany on April and have plans to spend a weekend in London. This will be my first time in the city and I have only a couple of days so please help me on making a good itinerary. I want to see the basics of course. Also I'm looking for a well located hotel to stay. I'm not a budget-hotel type of person and like architecture and design a lot. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Nino- We need more info. There's a wide price range above "not budget" (150 GBP/nite?, 250?). Architecture & design-modern, classic or both?

If you're traveling with someone (because prices are for double occupancy), you might check luxurylink.com for a weekend hotel package you bid on.

As you probably know, Fodors has a best 3 day itinerary you might look at for ideas under destinations.

I'll be there by myself and look for a rate in the range of 100-150/nite. I like modern hotels. Thanks!

Nino, since my taste runs more traditional, I can't offer a personal reco. You might have a look at the website tablethotels.com This website allows you to select hotels based on style (classic to cutting edge). So select your destination, then choose cutting edge & see their listings. I haven't used this website for booking so can't say whether their prices are competitive, but it's a good place to "shop" for a hotel, especially if you're looking for a modern place.

Here's a link to a previous thrtead on modern architecture in London.

You may want to look into the Renaissance Chancery Court http://marriott.com/property/propertyPage/LONCC

It's in a historic building but has been completely renovated. Weekend rates should fall within your budget.

How could someone from Germany has a nickname carioquinha? I'm Brazilian but paulista. I'll be in Munich for a trade show and this will be a business trip so my company will purchase the tickets for me. Thanks much for the offer. What part of Germany are you from? I've been to Germany many times before...it's great!

Suggestion
Click at the top of this screen on Destinations, and go to the London area. You will find lots of suggestions, including itineraries for short visits. You can pick and choose.

Also, if you do a search on this message board for Londoner Ben Haines
by name, you should come up with his many useful suggestions. Many people here make useful suggestions, but Mr Haines has posted links to suggested walking routes that emphasize history and architecture.

I'll suggest two mid-level hotels, both on quiet Beaufort Gardens, near the Knightsbridge Tube stop. One is the Claverley where I stayed a couple of years ago. It is comfortable, they provide breakfast, they have an elevator, but it was a bit worn around the edges in places (though very clean.)
Next door is the Knightsbridge hotel. (not the same hotel as the Knightsbridge Green.)
It was completely renovated less than two years ago and though I haven't been inside since, it has been recommended to me by a friend, and is more luxurious and boutique-y than the Claverley I'm sure.

I have a file on London; if you'd like to see it, email me at [email protected]

Notes on some self-guided walks in London are at http://victorianresearch.org/haineswalks.html. But they are not designed around the standard sights that you ask to see.

Elaine, I tried to book the Knightsbridge Hotel but it seems that there's no availability for the dates I'll be there (April 2-4). Do you know the Myhotel Bloomsbury? Is it well located?

Nino,

I'm Brazilian also, and a carioca as well.

I just checked the Millennium web site, where I stayed 4 years ago, and apparently, there are rooms available for your dates. The double room excluding bkfst/taxes costs 120 British Pounds, whereas the same room including breakfast/taxes is 139, which seems to me as a better deal.

The hotel has a sleek designed lobby, as well as lounges, but the rooms are decorated in a more traditional style. It's very conveniently located, about a block distant from Knightsbridge tube station. The standard rooms are small, but still adequate , with all the amenities you could wish for. Check yourself the hotel, availability and rates at:

http://www.millenniumhotels.com/MCIL...orm&europe

If you like modern art, I strongly recommend you to visit the Tate Modern. I also love the traditional Tate Gallery. Turner's paintings are absolutely stunning.

Have a great time in London.

If you try www.Londontown.com,it offers Thistle Victoria(4 stars, conveniently located) for 59 pounds per night. I have stayed at the hotel- renovated old building with modern rooms.

Hi
there are many good hotels in good locations in London. Aside from comments here, check at tripadvisor.com which is great for guest comments.

I have friends who swear by the Millenium Bailey's hotel, across the street from Gloucester Rd tube stop.
Medium price, medium luxury, but for example, they have room service for breakfast.
