Help! I need a hotel in Paris!
My boyfriend and I are going to Paris in October. It's his first visit and I'm dying to show him the city I lived in as a student. We are staying six nights, and while I would love the George V, we need to be practical, so I am interested in hearing about 3* hotels, such as Hotel Madison, Hote Duc de St. Simon, Hotel Galilieo, and any others that may be recommended.
I want to make this trip special for him, so any and all help is very much appreciated!! Thanks very much!

Austen73, may I risk being considered unhelpful by suggesting that you enter these words into the search box: paris and hotel
and select 'france' in the droplist, and click Find..?
The topic of Paris hotels is probably the most popular/frequent one here. Since you are seeking general feedback to help you formulate a list of potential hotels, rather than seeking info on one or two choices, the search is a great way to unearth very recent comments. (espec. for the 6th/St Germain area!)
In addition, there are already consumer comments under the Rants/Raves section for Hotels - did you check that area of Fodor's?
These exercises will greatly entertain and illuminate you while you do wait for replies to your question.

I was going to make a couple suggestions on your question, also, as I just think you may have trouble getting good advice this way. First, it is really a little too broad to just ask folks to tell you about 3* hotels in Paris. It would be better for you to select an area of the city you want to stay (if you lived there a while, you might know that better than many, luckily), and a budget. 3* hotels can range from about 100 to 400 euro per night, probably.
Also, the hotels you've asked about are very different, and that's why I was wondering what you would prefer. The Duc de St Simon is a very expensive hotel, about double the rate of the Galileo. I haven't stayed at it or the Madison, so wouldn't be in a position to tell you a lot about them, except location, which you must know. However, the Madison in particular has had numerous lengthy comments and threads on here recently (St Simon mentioned quite a bit, also), so I think those folks might not want to re-write all their comments and advice, but that's just speculation.

Austen,
I've always been happy staying at the Hotel Mayfair...it's in the 1st just across from the Tuileries.

good suggestions above, people would like to be helpful, but please narrow it down a little especially since you know Paris. What area would you like?
What do you want to spend per night?
Lots of people here have their favorites, but it helps to know what YOU are looking for.

I stayed in the Madison last week. It is a lovely hotel, and a perfect location. the 4 metro line is directly in front of it, and there are some spectacular restaurants and shops in the immediate area. A nice, easy walk to Notre Dame area as well.
The only concern about the hotel was the room we had (125, facing St. Germain) had very hard beds. I'm used, and love, soft mattresses but these were without a doubt the firmest I have stayed in for any hotel.
But, I would not let that deter you. All renovations have been completed and my experiences was wonderful, aside from the uncomfortable bed.
