I am so upset now. I received a mail on the 6th with a tracking number when I asked for a twin room availability. When they replied they had rooms I sent my friends name mine and a credit card number on the 8th July. I herd noithing and mailed twice after and now had a broken frewnch.english conversation with someone there and he states I am not booked in for the 3 nights. I am beside myself now and searching for someone at work fluent enough to speak with the secretary whom he says is returning in 1/2 hour. I wanted to stay here ans in the Marais and now I am worried. Any ideas!
HELP! Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais in Paris say they do not have my reservation for August!

Sorry you're having this problem. Perhaps this newly renovated Marais hotel may have a vacancy: www.hoteldesarchives.com
Good luck!
Hi SP,

Sorry about your problem, but what can you expect from Europeans? Unlike we Americans who are extremely efficient, they have a far too lackadaisical attitude.
The CdB isn't the only game in town. The Marais isn't the only district.
Did you have a successful conversation with the secretary?
It does not sound like you ever got a formal confirmation. The tracking number may just have been an acknowledgement - unless you got a confirmation number, you dont have a reservation.
I don't know if you are asking for help on dealing with the hotel or on what to do next but I would say - find another hotel- use all the sights listed here that show availability (parisby, venere, trip advisor) Use a service where you can be sure you get a confirmation if you are having trouble communicating to the french in their native language. If you cant find a hotel in the Marais -find another area just as nice and visit the Marais.
And unless you are going to become fluent in French, you should expect that the French will speak in French and when they speak in English of any nature, its a courtesy, not an expectation.
Well, I got a colleague from france to call and they state that they did send a mail to be and never heard back...This could have been diverted to a spam filetr we have at work but the previous ones got through to us so I just have to take it on the chin. They gave us the number of some place in the area and I check on trip advisor so we chose the Axial beaubourg. It loiks nice and is more exp but we just want to sort this.
I never have much of a problem here in Ireland. We want to stay in the Marais as its close to places we want to visit and I want to try a new area and see some nightlife. Its just us gals this weekend and we intend on shopping and enjoying the food. Apparently the new place is across from BHV so I am not too put out now!
Its not so bad in europe usually Ira
Thanks for the hotel croque_madame I will hang on to this just in case.
Chicagolori, I ALWAYS speak French first. I live in Ireland and would not presume to go anyplace and not at least try. It's just my French has gone so rusty and he started speaking to me in English. I never expected him to in the first place. And basically between us speaking both the point was understood. I Asked a friend to call to just be sure I got the conversation correct and it was not under my friends name instead (unfortunately not). That's the breaks and we have a new hotel so crisis averted!
Thansk all for the advice.
I would have preferred the Axial Beaubourg anyway, myself, so I think you did fine. In the future, I would never let something like that slide several weeks, as you should always get a confirmation when you make a room reservation. If someone quotes a rate and you respond by email with a CC number and say I want that, I would never assume you have a reservation from that if you don't hear from them. After all, they could have booked it in the meantime, aside from you not knowing if they got your email okay.
..at least you had notice! I booked a small Paris hotel stayed there and came back at the end of the tripto stay another night. No room despite confirmed reservations and documentation so at least you have notice! It is not difficult to find another place in August. The Marais is great but try the 6th or 7th.. Oh if you are within 21 days try rates to go for a last minute bargoon.
