Help Hotel Bellavista or Olivedo? Menaggio or Varenna

Seems as if I have but two choices in availability and price range. Bellavista @ $180 Euro (street side only) and Olivedo @ $200 Euro. I have two children 8 and 9. The pool at the Bellavista seems enticing for the kids (June 20th arrival). I will have a car and a flight out of Milan lin at 3 p.m. Hotel Florence has two rooms street side also in Bellagio. Any suggestions?

Those prices seem high--must be a quad.
With a car I would count out Bellagio.
And, your flight is from Linate. Hmmm!
Tough choice. Varenna is a really cute village--I think I would take that. You have to decide about the pool.

We stayed at Hotel Olivedo last month actually in March. I wrote a detailed report of our trip including Varenna. Read that part of the report which may help you decide.. Look the report under "Reeder" Any questions don't hesitate. H

Bobthenavigator says no to Bellagio with a car, why? And Reeder went with a car? Just confused. I feel like I will miss something if I do not stay in Bellagio for some strange reason. I found a website that had many more apartment options in Bellagio. About the prices yes they are for Quads. I am stunned by how the prices have changed in one year. All my hotels for the trip are well over $200 Euro (for a quad though). But still, I'm not staying at the Ritz!

Frankly, I think you might "miss" something if you don't visit Bellagio, but that doesn't mean you have to STAY there, too. You'll "miss" something in the mid-lake area if you aren't able to take the time to visit all three towns at some point IMO because they are all somewhat different.

We were able to park in Varenna which was of course a consideration. I don't know about parking in Bellagio. We had a great lunch in Bellagio with views of lake. They had rooms there and parking. Why not check them out? H

OOPS! I meant to mention the place. It was called Silvios. It was on outskirts of Bellagio coming in from Milano area. H

We stayed at the Bellavista in August a few years ago. It was a decent value, and the fact that it had parking was a plus. Service was a little grumpy (from some of the personnel) and I thought the rooms could use some updating. My daughter (9 at the time) used the pool once and found it cold. In fairness, though, I recall that it was a little on the cool and rainy side while we were there. The lake view from the rooms and the outdoor terrace is far and away the best feature of this hotel. I would not choose to stay there in a street-side room.

Varenna and Bellagio have more charm, but we had no issues with staying in Menaggio, particularly given its accessibility. Ferry service between the three towns is frequent and easy.
