HELP! Has anyone driven from PARIS to ANNECY??

We seem to be having a change in driving plans this June, and I was wondering if anyone has driven from Paris to ANNECY.

How long does it take? Is it a scenic drive? Also, what kind I expect the weather to be in Annecy in early June?

Thanks a million,
Betty

It'll take a full day of driving to get there. As for scenery, there won't be much of the spectacular type until you start getting close to Geneva. But there are lots of neat little villages along the way, where you could stop and just walk around a bit before hitting the road again. Pick one that looks special for a lunch stop. My favorite would be around Avallon/Vezelay. Good luck.

I did. It's a lot. I made a stop in Lyon.

Thanks, Wayne and Lobo!

A full day driving = 6 hours? Or more?

Will I need a coat and sweater in June?

Betty, you know by now to plug "Paris" and "Annecy" into www.mappy.com or www.viamichelin.com, and see what the route, distance and driving time is.

Thanks, travelnut,

Also wanted to get others' impressions of the drive and the town, in addition to the logistics.

In answer to your question about 6 hours, it will take more than that, especially if you decide to make a few stops. If you were to drive absolutely non-stop, it would take probably about 7 hours depending on traffic and detours. A best case would probably be 6 hours. The problem with going to a site like Michelin is that all they can do is basically divide the mileage by the average speed and come up with a number. There are other variables that make the times more or less--mostly more. Good luck.

We did it and spent one night in Avallon, another visit, we stayed in Peruges. We loved staying along the lake. Many great restaurants. Another visit we stayed in town, enjoyed the market and the night dining out in the old section of town on a terrace. Can't help with the June weather.

Cigale: Thank you, also! The photos I have seen of Annecy are just beautiful. But I think we would have to take a TGV first in order to cut down on travel time.
