Help from curly haired friends in Edinburg

Hello!

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but we are visiting Scotland this week and are only bringing carry-on luggage. This means that I can't bring the hair mousse that I typically use. Can anyone with curly hair give me a suggestion for a good humidity defying mousse or product for curly hair that I can buy in Edinburgh?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

There's no edit feature so it's not your fault OP.

I would look at Bumble and Bumble styling products - they do teeny little travel sizes and you could quite easily get those in your luggage. Lots of different creams, sprays and mousses that would fit the bill in their range.

Or, just tie or clip your hair up and out of the way like I did on several days of my recent trip - odds are it'll piss down at some point anyway.

John Lewis and the big city centre Boots usually have them.

You could also put the product you love from home in a couple of 3 oz bottles that you can carry on, as many as you can fit in both your quart bags of liquids.

I guess, though, a mousse wouldn't work that way, would it.

I'd experiment at home and find something else. A product that could be decanted into a 2 oz. plastic bottle or comes in sample-sizes that could be packed in your carry-on.

(I'm a curly head and use products that are more a cream-y consistency, easy to pack, and work beautifully).

To me would be smarter than running around on the first days of your trip trying to find & buy something that works (or maybe doesn't!) on your hair.

I see the US is now using 100ml too. Used to be 100ml coming home but slightly less, 3 oz leaving.

"3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume); 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure."

3.0 or 3.4 oz is a HUGE amount of something like a concentrated shampoo or conditioner. A 1.0 oz. container lasts me 2 weeks.

I agree entirely...but probably not enough mousse. Your suggestion to find something closer to liquid is a good one.

What's the brand of mousse that you use at home? It may well be available in the UK. You could also try Wella Shockwaves Mousse, available in almost every supermarket, chemist or chain toiletries store.

I use Dove Whipped Cream Mousse at home. Is it sold in the UK?

Thank you for all of your suggestions! I've tried so many products and find that mousse is what works best for my hair. I have yet to find a cream that works well for me. I will check out Aveda's Be Curly and see if it works, because I agree - it will be easier to bring something than to go looking.

If that doesn't work, I will definitely check out the suggested shops and brands!

Thanks so much!

paperlette- Aveda's Be Curly is more like a lotion so you might not like it, It works better on my hair than the heavier products because my hair looks softer and more natural. I often straighten my hair but we are headed for Italy in a couple of weeks and I think I will be curly the whole trip because it is easier. Hope you find the perfect product and have a great trip.

I use a Curl Cream Serum by Davines, it's consistency is a thick, creamy, lotion you put on wet hair.

Even if you can't find the perfect solution I still think something to take from home will be easier than having to go shopping, and perhaps have to buy full sized containers of something new, that possibly that doesn't work well for you.

I don't know if this helps but the major supermarkets of Tesco, ASDA and Morrisons sell Dove conditioners, although not your Dove Whipped Cream Mousse.

Sainsbury's is a large UK chain supermarket and offer the following hair mousse:

I'd guess that most of the others also sell a similar range of products that would suit you.

Friends of mine swear by Boots Essentials Curl Creme. I forgot to pick up any on my last trip, so I haven't tried it, but it's inexpensive enough that you could buy some and leave behind what is left over.
