Help for very cheap accomodation in Venice

From what I have found, Venice hotels are NOT cheap even in the winter. I am looking for a room fro 2 nights Feb 7&8 and I am willing to consider hostels, hotels & convents as long as they are cheap. (Less than $100 for both nights). What I am looking for: Good location, clean, safe & free wifi. I know is a hard thing to find but I wanted to see if anyone had any advice because I have not found anything in older posts or in my online research through various websites.

Thank you so much!

That budget is very low for good location, clean, safe and free wifi in Venice. You could try looking at www.eurocheapo.com or perhaps consider staying in Mestre or Lido.

Friends of mine just stayed on the Lido - a 20-minute or so ferry ride from San Marco for about 35 euros for a double - off-season rates that are the norm here.

You could consider Hotel Bernardi Semenzato. http://www.hotelbernardi.com It's quite centrally located. Had booked it for 99 euros a day for our trip in April. Unfortunately we aren't going to Venice now.

If you are interested in staying at a Convent, you could try the Istituto San Giuseppe www.sangiuseppecaburlotto.com
Email id is [email protected]. However, they have a night curfew....you should be in by 10:30pm.

Ay, I stayed at Bernardi Semenzato for 4 nights in Christmas time last year and wrote a review on Tripadvisor.com.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...ce_Veneto.html

If you are alone and have booked a room with shared bathroom, quite possibly you will get one of the ground floor rooms, plein and tiny (but that's expected isn't it?) . If you are not fussy, the place will be ok. And expect to pay the newly introduced city tax besides the confirmed room rate. For 2 star hotel, that's €2.- per night.

I am also going to Venice at the beginning on June to start our 3 weeks Italy vacation. Do you have any recommendations for an apartment in a good area? I read that Lido has beaches around. Am I correct?

pookymimi: You'll do better to start a new thread w/ your questions about apartments. Folks will be answering the OP about $50 a night hostels/hotels and your questions are entirely different.
