Help finding good Birmingham Hotel

I'm going to be travelling to Birmingham on business in the next couple of weeks, but I have to find my own accommodations. I'd like to find a hotel that's reasonably cheap and close by the airport. I found one site, http://www.birmingham-airport-hotel.co.uk./, that lists hotels right by the airport, but of course hotels are always different. Does anybody have any personal experience with the hotels on that site? They seem to be mostly chains; are they good representations of the chains they are named after?

Also, how bad does traffic tend to be in Birmingham? I don't even really know much about the city. Should I look into renting a car or am I better off with public transport?
