Help creating Honeymoon itinerary

My fiance and are heading to Europe for our honeymoon and only have 2 destinations so far. We start in late September 24th, where we land in Frankfurt, and the plan now is to definitely go to Munich for Oktoberfest. After, the only other definitive plan is to go to Bolzano, Italy (about 3 hours south of Munich by car) for a friend's wedding on October 4th. After, we have time to spend another 2-3 weeks traveling.

We need help filling out our schedule and would love recommendations for:
1) German/Austrian towns/cities that would be good to visit between Munich and Bolzano
2) Cities/towns in Italy/Slovenia/Croatia that would be idea to visit after Bolzano in early/mid October

Any help would be SO very appreciated!

Salzburg, Austria may not be on the direct route between Munich and Bolzano like Innsbruck may be (not looking at a map) but Salzburg is so so exceptional - to me one of the nicest most gorgeous cities in Europe - a Baroque wonder throughout in its pastel-hued facades.

You could hit 'Mad' Ludwig;s Herrenchiemsee Palace, lovingly set on an island in a placid lake famed by the Bavarian Alps, and known as the Bavarian Versailles, being a copy of many ways - you park in Prien at the boat docks and take a boat over.

Berchtesgaden and Hitler's Eagle's Nest (now a cafe I think) can also be easily visited on a drive Munich to Salzburg.

East of Salzburg is the fabled Sound of Music Lake District, where much of the outdoor scenes in that famous film were shot - St Gilgen and St Wolfgang make nice overnights in a stunning area.

Hi,

You could actually go via Munich, Salzburg, over the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse, through the Dolomites (Lienz, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Colfosco, Ortisei) to wind up in Bolzano.

Check out the Vinschgau/Val Venosta between nearby Meran/Merano and the Swiis border near Mustair.

Afterwards, drive the spectacular Timmelsjoch Pass into the Oetztal of Austria.

Subscribing for some above suggestions, which are great.
Let me add my 2 cents here, Halstatt and Gosausee, a few hours away from Munich, in the LAke District in Austria are excellent places. The hotel at Gosausee as a great location, lakeside and next to a forest. And Halsttt needs no introduction(close to St.Gilgen, that PalenQ suggests).
You can have a look at my trip report: ashwinbahulkar.wordpress.com/my-travels-2/central-europe-austria-and-czech-republic/austria-and-prague/

There are quite a few nice and romantic places in Croatia as well.

On the north, the best place on the coast would be Rovinj, while Motovun is a good idea for the inland.

Going further to the south you can find numerous cities with wonderful architecture and rich heritage. Zadar, Šibenik, Trogir, Split, Dubrovnik - if you are looking for bigger places. If you are into nature, National park Plitvice Lakes and NP Krka are beautiful and you'll have a great time there.

You could even visit some of the islands, e. g. Vis, Korčula, Brač, Hvar...
