Help Avoiding the Salzburg Music Festival

Jump to last reply

We will be in Austria in the end of August and beginning of September and would like like to include Salzburg on our itinerary. Since we are planning this last minute we want to avoid the craziness of the music festival in July and August since we do not have tickets or lodging.

If we arrive Sept. 2nd will hotels still be very expensive and hard to find, or will things be more normal? How long does it take for the pace and tourist crowds in Salzburg to get back to normal.

We are also interested in visiting the lake region to the east - St. Wolfgang and Hellstatt - and are wondering how that will be impacted by the festival.

Thanks!
