Help again plz :)))

Hi guys,

I am posting again with another query. After considering all your advices we have come up with an itinerary for 7 days...which i am listing below.

20th aug :- Reach zurich frm Mumbai. Stay Zurich
21st aug :- montreux..stay
22nd aug to 24th aug :- interlaken ( jungfrau- grindelwald-murren-lake thun)
25th aug to 26th aug :- Lucerne ( mt. Titlis and one free day)
27th aug :- return

but now we are thinking of postponing the trip by 3-4 days. So i was thinking of spending all 3 days in Zermatt and do day trips.

1) i just wanted to ask which are the places we can explore frm zermatt...
2) can Ticino side of swiss be covered as a day trip. How far is it? Or u think we shud skip this one and stick with zermatt and surroundings.
3) can appenzell b visited frm zermatt or is it too far?
4) do u think we shud spend the last day in zurich in order to get our flight bck home at 11 in the mrng OR we can travel frm zermatt to zurich in the mrng to get the flight bck?

Can you guys please help me with this ?

But now we have

If I understand you correctly, you are now thinking of flying from Mumbai to Switzerland for only 3 to 4 days? This seems like folly to me.

Zermatt to Zurich is 3 1/2 hours by train. Add required check-in for your airline, usually two hours minimum. You would need to be on the train by 5:00-5:30 am.

These websites should be helpful:

Day trip s from Zermatt mean you have an hours travel down the valley and back to Visp before really starting you day trip unless you intend to use the mountain railways and funiculars. In my opinion it's nice enough for a day trip from Montreux if you relly want to see the Matterhorn.

No Zermatt is a really bad place to tour other towns or sites from - since it is so high in the mountains. Go and visit if it you want, but don;t make it the end of your trip - reorder things so at the end you are either in Zurich to catch the plane or only someplace that is an hour from the airport train station - like Lucerne or Basel.

Thank you tipsyguys ... ya the long journey was bothering me too.. but we really want to see zermatt.

thank you nytraveller... we were thinking the same as to staying the last night close to zurich so that we reach airport on time. But our lucerne bookings have already been done hence its a problem. Is there any other options as a base other than basel?? Some place that is close to zurich and a good option to explore.

When is your flight out of Zürich? You could stay in Rapperswil, which is a nice town for a day.

I have a 11.55 am flight from zurich... you think brig to zurich airport would be convenient enough?? I have to reach by 9 , so i have to leave by 7. Are the trains regular and on time? Or u think i shud stay closer to zurich on last day??

There's a 5.47 train from Brig that should get you there on time. Anything later is pushing it. You need at least 2.30 hours to get to Zürich airport from Brig.

Brig dp 6.49 - Zurich airport ar 9.16. Direct train with dining car, family car and minibar.
Delays are extremely seldom and may happen after extreme snowfall followed by icy night temperatures. Both can be excluded in August.

You will find snow high above the villages of Zermatt and Saas Fee, which will be reachable by cable car.

The weather is very tricky in Switzerland so I'd plan my days accordingly. Have a list of things to do and decide according to the weather.

Even though 1 1/2 hours doesn't sound far by train, it does get tedious after awhile so you may be finding yourselves wanting to just do a few things local one day.

Buses from Brig to Simplon Pass run almost every hr. The Pass area is nice, with 2 mountain lakes 1 icy cold (Rotelsee) and the other (Hobschusee) rather warm (for Swiss people!).
Tons of blooming mountain flowers in June/early July.
Fine views to Aletsch Glacier, Bietschhorn, Monte Leone, Fletschhorn, Lagginhorn, etc.
Many hiking trails, among them the trail along the watershed between the Adriatic Sea and the rest of Europe (Swiss leg: Col Ferret - Simplon - San Gottardo - Lucomagn - Spluga - Tgesa da Sett - Maloja - Bernina - Foscagno - Pass dal Fuorn - Pas da Resgia)
The Simplon Pass area is rather windy, however.

Thank you kleebatt and neckverd... this was of so much help... after taking into consideration all your advice and suggestions,.. heres my final itinerary... please correct me if i am wrong anywhere...

Day 1 : Arrive early morning. Rhine falls. Overnite Zurich.

Day 2: Lavaux vineyards -Chateau de chilon..If time permits geneva ....Overnite Montreux

Day 3: Day trip to Gstaad/ Saanen. Overnite Interlaken.

Day 4 : Jungfrau.. Overnite Interlaken

Day 5 : Mt.Schillthorn & tumbellach falls . Overnite Interlaken.

Day 6 : Mt. Titlis ..Overnite Lucerne

Day 7 : Day trip to Appenzell . Overnite Lucerne.

Day 8 : Arrive Brig . Day trip Evolene / Grmientz Overnite Brig

Day 9 : Zermatt. Overnite Brig

Day 10 : Locarno ..Overnite Brig

Day 11 : Altesch Glacier...Leave brig and Arrive Zurich. Overnite

Day 12 : Fly out.

I know we should have kept lucerne as our last tsop... But like i said...it was initially a 7 day trip and so our hotels were already booked. We just decided to postpone our trip and hence a last minute change to add brig in order to see zermatt.

Please correct me if i am wrong anywhere... or anything that i can add or maybe leave out. Is this itinerary doable?

Thank you for all your help..

Doable? I guess.

Rhinefalls: Not that spectacular to warrant a trip on the same day you arrive. I'd just stick around Zürich and roam.

Geneva: You won't have time so skip it. It isn't worth it anyway.

It's a busy schedule with no downtime. You may find yourself crossing out a thing or two and just enjoying yourselves at the place you're at.
