Help - unable to book train in Scotland via Scotrail website

My husband and I are planning our trip to Scotland in Sept, and for some reason we are unable to book train tickets on Scotrail website. It asks for a post code, and when we selected US from drop down box, and typed in our zip code, it wouldn't accept it. So we tried the Edinburgh post code where we are staying and got a little further, but when we typed in our billing (US) address and credit card number, it rejected the number!

We have even tried to call Scotrail, and gotten "this call cannot be completed" even tho we used the number from their website. Does anyone have any suggestions, or do we need to ask a travel agent to book for us? All we want is to get from Edinburgh to Aberdeen. It sure has been frustrating. Thanks for any help.

Well, just wanted to update, Scotrail website does not allow international bookings, FYI. We emailed them and they got back to us. Seems odd, eh?

We did try calling the phone number again dropping the initial "0" as suggested, and got through - THANK YOU so much... Fodorites really take care of each other and I have gotten so much good info on this site.

I too have had this same problem and we are going from London to Edinburgh this July. I e-mailed several times to Scotrail and also was told that I could not book from US. I contacted the concierge at the London hotel where we are staying and they are going to book our tickets for us when we arrive. Scotrail has told me that they are working on letting ousiders book from home but no soon enough for our trip. Good luck
