Help - Need to identify a place!!!

Travellers of the world, please help.
I was once shown a postcard of a place in Portugal with a huge (I mean really huge) wave battering a cliff. I think there were some people standing on this cliff and they seemed small ants compared to size of the wave. Can someone tell me where it is? I mentioned it to some friends and now they want to visit the place. Thanks in advance for any hints!

it sounds to me like some of the cliffs in the algarve...but I could be wrong. Perhaps somewhere like Ponta da Piedade or Praia da Rocha.

There are some photos on these pages

and

hope it helps!

I don't think it is in the Algarve. My educated guess goes to Boca do Inferno west of Cascais.
If your friends choose to go there, tell them to avoid unnecessary risks.

Thanks for the replies.
From the descriptions, it looks like it is boca do inferno (hell's mouth). Does anyone have a picture of the place during high tide/stormy weather for me to confirm?

I don't have a picture of high tide, but from what we saw during other times it still sounds like the Boca do Inferno. Like the other poster said, be careful. An amazing place to just watch!

Another reference: I was told that this place is supposed to be near Portimao in the Algarve. Are we talking about the same place?

Portimao is in the Algarve. The sea there is nearly flat all year round. A huge wave there is as unexpected as a snowfall in a summer day.
