On June 14, 2012, I fly into Heathrow at 9 pm. Any chance of me getting to Moreton-in-Marsh that night, or should I just bite the bullet and sleep in/near Heathrow? Any suggestions for hotel/bnb/whatever?

You won't likely be through immigration/luggage retrieval until after 10PM so I'd just Priceline a Heathrow hotel. They are much the same and PL gets you amazing rates - sometimes less than $50.

Meant to add--if you mean by public transport . . . There is no train or coach directly from LHR to M-i-M. So, you either take a train into London and then transfer to another train, or a coach to Reading or Oxford and then get to the train station for a train onwards from there. In either case --yes, wait til the next day

On the current timetable, the last train to the Cotswolds is 2148 from Paddington/2222 from Reading. This infuriates us, since it's impossible to see a play or opera in London and get home that night, unless you drive - which means you can't drink, so where's the fun in that?

So we've been lobbying for years to get a later train, and Worst Great Western keeps on sort of fobbing us off. But our nice MP has got Network Rail to spend £100 mn on upgrading the line and from May 14, there's a new timetable with new, more frequent, trains. So it's just possible there might be a civilised last train that lets us have a cultural life - and lets you catch a Heathrow Express to connect with it.

For the moment, in your shoes I'd suggest a working assumption of getting the bus to Oxford from outside T1/3 or T5, getting off at Queen's Lane, staying at the Old Bank almost next door to the bus stop then getting a train to Moreton after a leisurely breakfast the following morning.

But, around mid March, check on the railway websites to see if they've finally given you and us a decent train service.

Try searching for Cotswold taxis and you should pre-book a journey, and anybody should be able to drop at your hotel. About 1hr 15 minutes travel time.
