We'll be landing at Heathrow at about 8:30 on a Sunday morning and will have two regular-size suitcases. What do you think would be our best, most efficient and least expensive mode of transportation to get to our hotel which is the Melia White House on Albany Street, Regents Park?

I know we can do it by tube but I'm looking for alternatives to that.

Are there airport limousines (we would use that going back and forth to the airport at home), car services (like Carmel cars which I use in NY), taxis? Other?

The good news about that hotel - it is quite near 3 different tube stations. The bad news - none of those stations are very convenient to LHR. So I'd definitely take a car service.

I've used Uber during our London trip 2 months ago and it was safe. Although apparently, people recommend you be very careful using Uber. I added an international plan to my verizon photo for $10 a day so I immediately had internet after rebooting my phone. The app worked perfectly at the airport. Taxi's tend to be very expensive, but they are really nice drivers! Much nicer than Uber drivers in my experience.

I personally think uber is not a good idea in London.

Just having a license and a GPS does not make one a taxi driver. Makes sense in other places . . . London not so much.

Used uber in London without problems, but only getting around in town. For airport into the city have come to prefer exclusiveairports.com as they tend to have nicer vehicles than justairports at comparable rates and good service.

Re Uber, I've never used it at home (I rarely take cabs here) and I'm not inclined to start using it while I'm in a foreign country bogged down with suitcases and somewhat unfamiliar with the territory and costs, etc.

I'd feel more confident using a car company. We had a good experience with justairports but I'm happy to have a couple of alternatives to look at.

I'm just about to book a car so I'm doing a bit of price comparing. The prices end up being about the same and I'm going to go with justairports only because we've used them before with good results.

I'm paying 38 gbp cash. Any suggestions about tipping?

(By the way, it's a good bargain if you pay cash. Credit card would have cost 56 gbp.)

I seem to remember when using Justairports that if you use a credit card, the parking charge is included, but if you pay cash, you need to reimburse the driver for the parking costs? Is that correct?

We tip the driver a few £ since I don't think it's really expected.

I think I do have to pay a parking charge but maybe it's not as much as 14 gbp.

I usually just do "& euro ;" or "& pound ;" without the spaces. I think it's HTML though someone may correct me - I read that tip on here awhile ago!
