years ago I stayed at the Swan which is (was) a sort of combination pub and B&B.
Location is The Hythe, Staines, Middlesex, phone 01784 452494, fax
01784 461593. Some rooms have private bath, some don't. Room rate includes full breakfast. No free shuttle as far as I know. Takes credit cards.
Charming, historic in, about 15 minute taxi ride from Heathrow.

My guidebook also lists under "moderate prices" Stanwell Hall, also in Staines, phone 01784 252292,
fax 01784 245250. Rooms have private bath, breakfast included. Book says it is a Victorian house, family-owned, good for business people, rooms recently renovated, and there's a bar and restaurant.

The Novotel, which I have stayed at - just like any chain airport hotel in the states - should be priced near the upper end of gigi's budget. The Ibis, part of a budget chain similar to the Travel Inns, should be in Debbie's price range. Hotel shuttles at Heathrow are not free, but they are cheap.

We just got back from making an overnight connection at Heathrow. There is a shuttle bus called the "Hotel Hoppa", but it is not free. Also, it does not go to terminal 4, so you have to connect with the bus that does at either term 2 or 3. We stayed at the Sheraton Sky (something or other), and the price wasn't too bad as it was a week end night. HOWEVER, it took us 55mins. (no traffic) to get from the hotel to terminal 4. The bus made a few stops and then we had to connect. The hotel was so close to term.4 that we could have taken a cab in 5 mins. (we didn't know it would take us so long on the bus.) Thank goodness I had planned to some duty free shopping at the airport, so we left about 31/2 - 4 hrs. (also allowed plenty of time for check-in) before the flight.

Elsa
