Heathrow Airport Hotel

It's been a while since I have been in the UK and I need only one night near Heathrow for an early flight home to the states. I have read some hotel reviews, but wondered if anyone can recommend a nice, clean place with access to a shuttle or the Hoppa bus. The hotels I have found so far are a little high and unfortunately it's a week night that I need, so there are no weekend rates available. Thanks in advance.

http://www.yotel.com/ Check out the yotel at Heathrow airport. Sounds like a great idea.

You can always try to bid for a 4* LHR hotel on Priceline.

Or, if you aren't quite adventurous enough for Priceline, have a look at Hotwire.

For a full overnight - I'd definitely priceline (or possibly hotwire) a 4 star LHR hotel. It would cost less than yotel which basically gets you a cubicle.

If your layover is like 6/8 hours total or less, then yotel makes a LOT of sense. But they charge by the hour so for a full day or night it will be fairly expensive.

PL is terrific for LHR properties . . . . .

I have not used PL or Hotwire in the past, but maybe it's time. I am also looking at the list that was sent. I did stay at a hotel out there before but I can't remember the name. I thought it was possibly a Travel Inn. Thanks everyone and if anyone else can recommend a place, let me know.

Deborah, I had a similar dilemma, and got tired of ripping out my hair over it. So I used Hotwire, and chose a 4-star airport hotel. I am very happy that they gave me the Sheraton Skyline, for a price that wasn't available anywhere else on-line (I checked afterwards.)

I have had very good experiences when using hotwire...you choose the area...make sure you understand it often covers a broad area. You choose the number of stars...(I prefer 3 stars, 3 1/2 stars, or 4 stars.)

After you are assigned your hotel, you can't cancel it. But you can get the phone number which rings directly at your assigned hotel (NOT a generic 800 number), and make a special request for a certain type of room. Only someone working on location at your hotel can note this request on the computer. I like to request a quiet nonsmoking room with a King bed. It's not guaranteed but if you check in early, I find I usually get what I want.

Good luck!

what price range did you get if I could ask? The Marriott is 105 for AAA which is one of the better rates I have found so far.

Is that £105? Not bad, but if you use PL you can get a decent place for $60-$70 and sometimes less.

Check biddingfortravel.com to see what has been bid lately.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn for a night early July and it was fine. I booked it over the internet some time before for about 85GBP from memory, which included a huge breakfast. We paid (6GBP for 2?) for the bus.

There are several Holiday Inns I think - this one is in a village called Sipson. A couple of reasonable pubs nearly - the best of which is around the corner from the hotel.

This is 2 to 3 times what you would pay for a similar property via Priceline.

The answer is simple: Priceline will save you substantial money on a full-night stay. Go to biddingfortravel and search through the information there. If you are still uncertain how to do it, then feel free to drop a line here with some questions, as there are many here that can help you out.

Oh, and I wouldn't bid below a 4-star for LHR area. You won't save enough money and the options become too erratic at the lower ratings.

Priceline has not accepted my offers of $70-$80 U.S. dollars for a four star Heathrow airport in late September, but they are offering me a four star hotel for $94.

You still have some time to rebid - if they are offering $94, then you might get it in the $85 to $90 range.

Or you could just take the price. Assuming this is one night, you would only save $10 or so, which doesn't seem like enough to worry about, as far as I am concerned.

Depending on when you are travelling, a new ETAP is opening in September, it is not within the immediate airport area but a couple tube stops away and a short walk. But they are advertising rates at £32.00 a night.

Deborah: did you mean the Marriot for 105 British Pounds, or 105 USD dollars?

I booked our 4-star Heathrow airport hotel on hotwire back in June, for a September 2008 trip. I got the Sheraton Skyline for $139 USD...by the time they added taxes and fees it came to a total of $166 USD, which I thought was fine for a 4-star hotel, considering London's prices and the weak US dollar.

I have no idea if prices have gone up or down since I booked that hotel...but I don't like to wait til the last minute to book...I like to have things settled. I checked the internet, on all sites, right after booking, and the Sheraton Skyline wasn't offered for that price on any other web-site at the time when I booked.

Hotwire actually has a guarantee to refund double the difference if you find a cheaper price within 48 hours on your hotel prices on the internet...it has to be for a hotel room that is available, because some sites advertise great-sounding prices and when you try to book they are actually sold out...so that doesn't count.

When you compare prices, don't forget to see whether they include taxes and fees, so that you know what you are comparing. Good luck! Have you booked anything yet?

I have used Priceline for LHR hotels many times--never paid over $90 including taxes and fees for 4* hotel. Due to American Airlines flight schedules, we always have to spend the night in London when returning from overseas trips. The Hoppa bus works great to get to and from hotel.

I have also stayed at the Yotel at LHR for a long day-time layover. It's great for a rest but I don't think I'd like to spend an entire night in it.

JaneB - Why wouldn't you want to stay an entire night in a yotel? Were the beds uncomfortable? Did the room smell or was it noisy?
Hopefully you would be asleep all night and wouldn't know if it was a small room or a luxury hotel.

No, no, the bed was very comfortable and a tv was available. It is, however, very cramped. The bed pulls down and fills the entire room. There is a shower, toilet, and lavatory which fill up the space partitioned off for it. It was great for a nap/rest between flights and I would use it again for that. They charge by the hour and if your flight is delayed, they do not make allowances. Our flight was 2 hours late arriving and so we lost 2 of the 6 hours we paid for.

Also, I thought it would be more convenient to reach. We still had to leave and re-enter the secure area at Terminal 4.

And I think a hotel on Priceline costs less than an over-night stay at the Yotel.
