Have you flown Air Canada from the US to Rome? How was the service?
I have often flown from different US cities into Italy, but am getting fed up with the bad service and horrible discomfort on most US carriers these days. I have found a really good fare flying to Rome (connecting in Toronto) on Air Canada, and I wonder if any of you have had experience with the airline. Hard to believe, but I have never flown with them. My experience with non-US carriers thus far has been far superior, and I am curious if I could expect the same from Air Canada.
Thanks for your input!

The nice thing about air canada is that their staff are not the hideous young and happy crew you get on most aircraft. They are normal people ranging from 20 to 60 and as a result it's like being flown by your parents

Air Canada is nice to fly with if the pilots show up. But if they don't, and none of the passengers volunteer to fly the plane, then your stuck:

I've flown with Air Canada numerous times from Toronto to Europe and the US, while in the most part staff are helpful, you do get the crusty-attitude ones once in a while. International flights have personal tvs, food is ok, but coach as always is mostly crowded. As for striking, they seem to always want to be on the strike but the gov't quickly puts a stop to it.
If you can find a flight with KLM, try to go with them. I flew them last year to Budapest, and the service was excellent.

KLM is one I have wanted to try. If the service is anything like SwissAir, I will be happy. In my book, Swiss does it right from top to bottom. Tickets seem to be $100-$200 more than competitors, though. I guess we get what we pay for?

You might want to look at www.airlinequality.com but I would read those reviews just as carefully as the ones on this thread.
Flew on AC last October to London from Toronto in the "business executive" (or whatever they call it) section. Service was as expected; departed on time and arrived early; food decent. Have no idea what economy would have been like.
