Have a great summer

It's me again! I have already posted some messages, so some of you might recognize me. Basically, I just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful summer in spite of all the terrible events going on in the world. I am flying to Germany (from California) in two days from now, and even though I am a little scared of getting on a plane now, I would never cancel my flight. We never know where or when the terorists will strike again, but I think we do know that they don't seem to like the Western world too much, so I think all of Europe and the US could be future targets.

And you, too!

Enjoy your visit over here - which area is actually home for you?

Greetings from Hamburg

I want to thank everyone for their warm wishes and concern! It's good to know that there are still good people in the world! And hsv (soccer fan??):
lol, that is actually a really good question!!! I am not so sure anymore where or what my home is. I was born and raised in Germany, I am German, got my Abitur in Germany, then moved to the US and have lived here ever since. I think I consider both the US and Germany my homes...I just have two homes now! I know it sounds weird, but I can't think of another way to put it. My heart is in both places.

mini,

soccer fan indeed, although I prefer to label it the British way: Football fan!

I certainly can relate to those divided feelings regarding where home is. Your combination of Germany and California actually resembles a dream for me. Just wanted to know which part of Germany you'd be travelling to !

oops..sorry about that, hsv! ;-) I'm going to Lower Saxony, to a small town about 30 minutes from the Dutch border.

I very much understand your remark about two homes. I am British but have lived here in the US for many years. When I am back home I am always a little out of place. I do not quite fit in. I am told I use American words and ways and here in the US I am also a little out of place being told you are so British.

One of my trips home was just a few days following 9/11 and I was a little nervous but it was fine. Security was heightened and perhaps one of the safety flights to be on.

Best wishes for a lovely time in Germany.

Sandy

meike,

I once more wish you all the best for a safe trip. In fact I' d expect this to be fairly safe indeed as security is heightened everywhere and as cynical as this may sound, the days just after a terrorist attack are possibly the safest in these days of insecurity.

Enjoy Niedersachsen!
