Has anyone used these "fast pasport" services on the internet?
I need a passport for my adult daughter in less than 4 weeks. I feel the "regular channel" will take too long. These services say they guarantee service in less than 10 days. They are very expensive but willing to pay the cost if they can be trusted. Is it safe to send them your certified copy of birth certificate? Any one with personal experience with this?

I smell rip-off. Why pay a middleman? You can speed the process if you must:

http://travel.state.gov/ppt_time.html

Your passport office will be able to expedite the passport for you, for a fee of course. But that way you don't have a middleman. My nephew expedited through the office and received his passport within two weeks. All the middleman does is walk your papers to the appropriate places... there's no magic or secret to it. Go to your local office and ask what to do. Good luck.

I have used them and friends have used them as well. Places like Travel Docs (Washington) can really speed up and ease the process, and their prices aren't that bad (probably around $75 on top of the government fees, less for non-express, more for faster issue).

If you've ever waited in line at the NY passport office you would appreciate this service.

We used a service found in the Yellow Pages for our daughter when, two days before she was supposed to leave for London, her passport was not to be found. They were a lifesaver. Many business people use services like this for such turnaround times. Howver, if you've got four weeks, the PO can get your passport back easily. May want to pay more to make sure but you should not have to use a passport service.
