Has anyone taken an excursion to Bruges offered by a cruise ship?
We will be on a cruise in September and have learned that the excursions that are offered have about two miles of walking. That would likely be too much for me. There is one excursion offered for people who have already been to Bruges. Folks would be brought into Bruges and dropped off. We have not been to Bruges before so I am thinking this might not be a really good excursion. So right now our choices are to be dropped off or to take an excursion that has too much walking. I am hoping someone who has been on a cruise ship excursion to Bruges might have some good advice for me. Thank you. Jan

If it was me -- I'd rather be dropped off than go on a tour. Bruges is a lovely place and you don't need to walk very far to see a lot.

Take the drop off. Once you're in Bruges, if interested, you can take a horse-drawn carriage tour and a canal boat tour - you'll see quite a bit that way. Then walk as much as you feel like.
Watch the movie In Bruges before you go. If the profanity and general silliness of the movie annoy you, turn off the volume and admire the scenery.

Just back from Bruges. All tour buses drop off on the outskirts at the beginning of the 'shopping' street. You then walk into the town to the cathedral, market square and other sites. Frankly it looked like a long way if you have trouble walking, but you could take in the Beginage off a side street which is well worth the effort and there are restaurants options as well. I'd vote for the horse and carriage tours, too.

Because you haven't been there it might not be good? Sorry, but to me this is a total non sequitur. There are thousands of places I haven't been to that I think might make wonderful excursions.
Anyway, seems like it's your only option since the other one involves too much walking for you. Bruges is lovely.

Totally agree, Bruges is a beautiful place, I too would take a taxi into town from the cruise ship, it would save you quite a walk from the tour bus parking. The carriage ride and canal cruise should be lovely in September, then if you didn't want to walk much find a nice outdoor cafe (weather permitting) have a drink & a bite to eat, and enjoy people watching. There should be no problem getting a taxi from the main square back to your ship.
Have a wonderful trip.
