I am considering this apartment in the Trastevere area of Rome:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/VacationRentalReview-g187791-d2030212-Trastevere_Nest-Rome_Lazio.html
It is for my husband and me in early May 2013 for 5 nights at the end of our 2-week trip. We love that there is a balcony and think that we will enjoy the more residential area. It fits our budget as well (less than $120/night).
Has anyone happened to stay there? Any reason that I should avoid it based on the description?
The owner is asking for a 100E security deposit via Paypal to reserve and then I would pay in full upon arrival, with the security deposit returned following my stay assuming no damage. Any reason I should be nervous?
Thanks in advance!
Has anyone stayed in this Rome Trastevere 1BR Apartment?

I haven't stayed in this apartment but did stay in another apartment in the area and absolutely loved it. I would heartily recommend Trastevere as a base for visiting Rome. We had the same payment arrangements - Paypal deposit etc.
We found our apartment on the Homeaway Holiday Rentals site and although you go on to make a private arrangement with the owners of the apartments, the site offers a relatively cheap insurance policy that you can take out to cover your stay if you are feeling anxious. Hope that's of some help.
When I'm feeling doubtful I ask myself what's the worst thing that could happen - the apartment falls through so I find a hotel, it costs a bit more but it's all part of being on holidays and will make a travellers tale when I get home. The most often discussed accommodation from my most recent trip to Venice this year is the rotten apartment we ended up in and the nightmare involved in getting to it!
Thanks for the info about Trastevere. It seems like a great area as a base so we are leaning towards this apartment. Although if anyone else has any suggestions for others that you've had personal experience with, I'd welcome them!
I also love Trastevere. We stayed at www.angelishouse.it--the Penthouse B. Great rooftop terrace, comfortable one br apartment. It is on the 3rd floor with no lift--75 steps. It helped work off the pasta. We loved the location!!
