Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Casci in Florence, Italy?

This is my first trip to Italy and I'm considering staying at the Hotel Casci in Florence Italy. Based on the description and reviews on the Internet it sounds good. My husband and I are traveling with another couple so we will be needing two rooms.

Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Casci before or know anything good or bad about it?

Is it centrally located for us to go to the main sites in Florence?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

The Casci is popular with Fodorites.

My wife stayed there four weeks ago, and it was OK.

It is geared towards international tourists.
Rooms are comfortable and clean. Very friendly staff.
My wife would stay somewhere else next time, because she would rather be treated the Italian way rather than as a visiting English speaking visitor.
Location is very good, walking distance to the train and the centre of Florence.

Casci is pronounced "kashee", not "kaski" - which may help if you are taking a cab.

Popular place with great reviews.
Look at Il Villino as well.

Il Villino looks great, but it shows it is not available when we are going to be there, even when I adjust the dates. I'll keep checking with the site to see if something comes up.

Thanks for the suggestion.

We stayed at the Hotel Casci a long time ago, on our first trip to Florence. It was good, not great, though the staff was helpful. At the time, the breakfast included croissants (cornetti) wrapped in plastic, which I didn't think much of - that may be different now.

In the same price range, but we LOVED it, was the B&B we stayed at on our last trip. Also within walking distance of many sites, but closer to the river, it's called Casa dei Tintori, http://www.casadeitintori.it/. The owners were wonderful and very helpful, and happy to let me practice my pathetic Italian. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and they spoiled my daughter with Nutella-filled cornetti and chocolate cake (and my husband with whole-grain cornetti). The rooms were comfortable and beautiful.

I would suggest you look into Hotel Il Guelfo Bianco. It's just a few doors north of Hotel Casci, also on Via Cavour, so it is very centrally located. i stayed there for 10 nights in 2009, and it was terrific. Go to: www.ilguelfobianco.it

I've heard good things about Hotel Casci. Many Fodorite posters have praised it. I have a feeling it's cheaper at Casci than at Il Guelfo Bianoco, although the latter is not expensive.

Hotel Alba Palace was not our first choice (Hotel Casci was not available) but we were thrilled with our stay and would definitely choose this hotel again. The location was perfect; close to the train station, bus terminal and sightseeing. The hotel was very clean, room 307 was spacious, quiet, had great air conditioning, a beautiful bathroom, lots of storage, mini-bar, free internet, great breakfast with espresso and hot chocolate, friendly desk staff and great candies.

The hotel's location is excellent and Via Cavour offers some neat shops and bars/cafes that are less expensive (and a bit better quality) than those just a block or two closer to the central tourist part of town. The location -- and the fact that the hotel is a decent, clean, well-run establishment -- are its best features. It's not romantic or charming by any stretch, but it was comfortable and perfect for our family. The staff were helpful and friendly and gave us good advice and helped with reservations and the like. The only negative we experienced was that breakfast was a bit over-managed (we kind of felt hovered over) but it did offer the chance to have a soft boiled egg, which was our only hot offering for breakfast during our entire stay in Italy. Good luck with your search!

Go to trip advisor & look up the Silla Hotel in Florence. We stayed there a few years ago & enjoyed the hotel, location & staff. The prices are really great. Good luck

Just went on their web site & it looks like the rooms go for under 100 euros a night. Really a good deal !! Since you need 2 rooms, maybe they will give you a better price. Again, Good Luck ....

I stayed at the Hotel Casci. It is an excellent location -- just a couple of moments walk to the central areas you'll be seeing, including the duomo. It is spotlessly clean, which I love. The staff are incredibly helpful and very nice and they offer some great perks, like ice in the lobby for drinks etc. On the flip side, I like to be on a quiet side street and the street the hotel is on (I forget the name) is incredibly busy. I mean, you walk out the door and you are absolutely swept into this tidal wave of people. I think the comments above aretrue, it is very much a hotel that caters to the international crowd, to me it was not quintessentially "italian." However for location and safety it was great. Have fun!

I have been at the Hotel Casci five times, it is my "place to go" when in Firenze. I can concur with all that was written above by others regarding this hotel.

But I have to add that I found no down sides, only positives. And they are :
1) immaculately clean
2) beautiful and crisp linens and comfy bed
3) fabulous family-run business and small B&B
4) location wonderful

When I was there some years ago with my elderly Mother and she had a health problem, towards early evening time, they went into full force and within 25 minutes there was an English speaking doctor in her room at her bedside. It was resolved quickly and she was fine afterwards but during our entire time there since that episode, everyone asked how she was feeling, whether she needed anything, and just spoiled her (and us) rotten. It is a good feeling when you are in a foreign country, that people take good care of you.

I highly recommend Hotel Casci.
