Has anyone ever flown LTU to Germany?

Saw a commercial for them last night, and while I've heard of them before, I've never flown them. Just wondering if Lufthansa is a better German airline to rely on, or if LTU is nice too. Their prices seem pretty reasonable

My daughter-inlaw flew Cape Town to Munich on LTU this week and said it was fine. Best price she could find.

Awesome...thx for the information! I was only able to find a few reviews for LTU when I googled it, and neither were very good. But they were from a few years back, so I'm really appreciative of your feedback that's a little more current

just returned from Germany on them earlier in the week. We left on time (we even pulled back from the gate a few minutes before scheduled time), landed early, and everything else was fine.

We flew LTU into Duesseldorf back in May 2004. No problems and the A330 was quite a bit more comfortable than the Continental 757 we flew in this past May. I would have used LTU again but they stopped their service into/from Orlando and wasn't willing to drive to Miami or Tampa for their once-weekly flights. The non-stop thing is a big plus for us.

Look into Condor airlines for comparable rates. Their flights are limited but more frequent than LTU.

LTU is a Luft subsidiary. Way back in 1980 we had ticketed on a one-stop Luft, but they shifted us to LTU out of L.A. which was a non stop...excellent flight and the return, too. Each time we have flown into Frankfurt we noticed several LTU planes on the tarmac...fly 'em, they're fine. I ahve had good reports from severa;l who have flon them...historically, they offer cheaper fares...

I'm so happy that everyone has had good experiences, and I really appreciate the feedback. I think the only thing holding me back now is I can't search flights in Dec '07/Jan '08 at this time (it will only let me search about 90 days in the future).

But, I'm going to keep them in mind and start checking their fares in the fall. This seems like a really great option/alternative though, so hopefully the fares will be as good as everyones' experiences. Thx!

Nevermind! Just called LTU and apparently they've cancelled all of their flights from LAX to Munich for the winter. So, no such luck there. Darn!

They belong to AirBerlin. AirBerlin until recently claimed that they wayt to keep the LTU brand alive, but have changed their mind. Their fleet now should be fully integrated into AirBerlin and used on long haul flights. So they're in a transition period right now.

Kylie:

Go Luft...we've done it several times..to Frankfurt. Excellent airline.
Call the guy from whom we buy tix, here in L.A. Two other Fodorites have used him and he quotes very good prices. He assisted my daughter and a party of ten last spring and they were amazed at the difference in price. He also got us an unbeatable rate on United for LA-Beijing-Tokyo return last spring.

Thanks Stu! I will definitely give him a call We have a friend who is a travel agent in LA as well, but it never hurts to have more prices in hand... makes people more willing to negotiate. I really appreciate the suggestion and his information. Thank you!
