Has anyone booked day trip from Rome to Tuscany???

Hi, we (husband and I) will be in Rome for 3 days in early October. We've booked our hotel in Piazza Navona area and are thinking about booking a day trip to Tuscany. Has anyone done this? If so, do you recommend any tour company? Thank you!!! Very excited!

I'm not sure about tour companies, but you can easily take a train from Rome to Florence for a day. Services leave Rome Termini for Florence up to six times an hour, and the trip only takes 1 hour and 20 minutes. If you want to see more of Tuscany, it would be worth doing an organized tour, but if you just want to see Florence, I recommend taking the train.

thumbalina,

what is it that you think that Tuscany will offer you that you would want to go all that way? Umbria is much closer to Rome, and just as lovely; many people do day trips to Orvieto from Rome just by taking the train.

you might also go to somewhere like Frascati which is well known for its wine and is even closer to Rome than Orvieto.

However as you only have 3 days in Rome, are you sure that you want to do a day trip at all? there is so much to do in Rome that in 3 days you will merely have scratched the surface.

I would pick Orvieto for a day trip. Much closr and quite impressive. But,Rome takes at least 5 days to scratch the surface.

we will be in Rome for 10 days in April and we were considering renting a car and driving to Tuscany for an overnight or 2. Any recommendations?

yes - don't. there are many lovely places to see around Rome and in Umbria; you don't need to go to Tuscany using up all your valuable holiday time driving there and back. and consider whether you need a car - you could easily get a bus to Tivoli to see the Villa D'Este and Hadrian's Villa and trains are very frequent and efficient.

3 days in Rome wont be near enough as it is. Save Tuscany for another trip.
