Half Price Tickets: Patricia Routledge in Solid Gold Cadillac

Several people have mentioned this revival opening soon in London with the beloved "Mrs. Bucket" of KEEPING UP APPEARANCES.
I just got an email. For performances from September 22 to 28 (except Sat. night) you can call the box office at (0)870 890 1104 and get top price tickets at half price. Just quote them SOLT offer (Society of London Theatres).

It's rather disappointing that you choose a very minor part of her career. She's been in so many wonderful plays, and productions, this TV series was nothing.

Perhaps to you Keeping Up Appearances may appear to be NOTHING in her career, however our family has enjoyed it so very much and a few years ago, before taking our voyage on the QE 2 we especially enjoyed their lengthy episode about THEIR TRIP on the same ship, what a hoot, And that long suffering Richard. I know i would love to get to London this fall, just to see her. Halfpint

It was a good series, however, people forget what a wonderful character actress she really is, and what a fabulous singer too.

How brilliant of you to notice that. That wasn't the point. This was aimed primarily at Americans, (yes, those horrible and nasty people, m_kingdom) who for the most part are only familiar with that very popular series shown on American TV.
I agree, she has done some brilliant things, but most "travelers" from across the pond wouldn't have recognized the name without the reference. Incidentally, previous posts about her have mentioned seeing her more recently in that tour of Importance of Being Earnest and in A Woman of No Importance. But those would have been odd choices for this post, since fewer people would be familiar with those. See how it works?

And m_dingdong will be the first to castigage anyone who expresses interest in seeing this play as a pinhead only looking for Bucket Redux.

Patrick: A million thanks. Just got fabulous seats for Thursday night 9/23. Could not be more grateful.

Thanks also for the restaurants on another post. A few you "approve" were at the top of my list of places to try.

With no plans to get to London in the next year, I'm living vicariously through those I'm sending to my favorite places.

Patrick,

Well said. Again, thank you for the info on Patricia Routledge. I am not going until Nov. To see her play and Richard Dreyfuss in The Producers will be great. 3rd trip to London in the last 12 months -will never tire of this great city. I will also check on some of your restaurants recs as well. Thanks again.

"Solid Gold Cadillac" was fantastic. Fabulous production, excellent performances by all, hilarious play. We loved it. (And went the second night of "previews".)

Another huge thank you to Patrick for the tip on 2-for-1 tickets (row F center!).

There is no sense in being a theatre snob. The Keeping up Appearances series was enjoyed by millions of people. If these people want to see patricia Routledge for that reason, what on earth is wrong with that? I wish I was going to be in London a month earlier than I am so that I could see her. i loved her in the importance of being Earnest a couple of years ago. i am hoping they will extend the run.
