Had the best time in Croatia!
My fiance's family and I just went to Bosnia and Dubrovnik, Croatia. We had an awesome time. I have never seen a place so beautiful. Has anyone ever been? How come I didn't hear much about these places? They were awesome!!

caseheld,
Headed there on Thurs.
If you read over the board, there are ton of people who have visited or are visiting in the very near futyre ( a ton going in Sept).
It is becoming a hot spot.
this board is heavy on Italy and France, but increasingly so more and more other destinations like Croatia are topics for discussion.
So glad you had a good time. Do a report.

We drove from Dubrovnik to Ljubljana and through Bosnia back to Dubrovnik. Yes, the scenery was something else.
We encountered a wolf in the middle of a mountain road -thank heavens we were in the car and not outside taking one of our many photo opportunities.
We slowed right down and the wolf bared his teeth at us. I let out this scream (which my husband thought was hilarious) as the wolf started to chase us up the road!!! Scary! I was shouting "drive faster!" Like he was going to catch us.
Especially scary to think we had been out of the car 5 minutes earlier when my husband took a "bladder break" !!!
I dread to think.......Aaaaargh!!!

Glad you enjoyed yourself! We will be leaving for Dubrovnik on November 4th.
I do agree with tripgirl; Croatia has become somewhat of a hotspot here on Fodors, with quite a few of us scheduled to leave in the near future. Can't wait for my turn!

mjs,
you now have me curious.
I leave tomorrow... any thoughts you want to share briefly.
Kelly also leaves tomorrow, so I know we'd both appreciate just a glimpse of your thoughts...
many thanks!

tripgirl and Kelly, I hope you both have fabulous trips! I can't wait to hear your trip reports. I booked my airfare awhile back and it feels like its taking forever to get here. I satisfy my craving, at least a little bit, in reading all the great trip reports.
mjs, as I have yet to see anything really negative about Croatia, you definitely have my interest!

Kelly, we too are staying an overnight in Mostar so I will be particularly anxious to read about that portion of your trip. Where are you staying? I have e-mailed three places, and nobody has responded. I'm a little nervous about calling, but I will have to go ahead and do so because apparently they don't check their e-mails!

We are staying at the Pansion Rose, 42E per night. I saw them recommended on this board and I think Lonely Planet, they have been great about responding to emails in a timely matter. They have a website :
http://www.pansion-rose.ba/home_e.htm
Will let you know how it works out. I had looked at a couple other places (dont remember which ones at the moment) but the Pansion Rose had guarded parking available and the others I looked at had limited parking.

tcreath,
I emailed them, in fact we have exchanged about 3 emails each in the past couple days. I am surprised you haven't heard from them. Maybe try them again, they could have had a problem with their email. In any case will let you know how it is!

carylspall,
Did you get to any of the towns around Mostar ? We will have 2 days and were thinking of trying to see a couple other places on the way to Dubrovnik like Pocitelj or the waterfalls at Kravice.

We too are thinking about straying away from Mostar to visit some of the surrounding areas, basically using Mostar as a base. Mostar itself looks interesting enough but I found the surrounding area to be of great interest when I started researching.
Kelly, I just sent Pansion Rose another e-mail. Hopefully I will hear back soon!

All: I still find it hard to undertand how so many peole visit Croatia and Slovenia and Bosnia without seeing Plitvice.
After many visits to the former Yugoslavia, I have always placed Plitvice as the number one sight to experience. It would be like traveling the Western USA and bypassing Grand Canyon.
