Has anyone had a guided (tour guide) tour of the Louvre or the Musee d'orsay?
If so, did you find it enjoyable? Do they use microphones so that only you can hear them or do they talk loud enough for everyone to hear?
Can you sign up for a tour beforehand or is it first come first serve?
This is for a small group of friends (there will be 6 of us) in the spring.
merci!

Hope someone has this information~
The website for the Louvre has information on tours.
http://www.louvre.fr/llv/commun/home.jsp?bmLocale=en
There is also Context Travel which has various Louvre tours:
http://www.contexttravel.com/search/results?q=louvre
Also, ParisWalks.com, which is much less expensive.
I have no idea of the answer to your microphone question.
Here are excerpts from my trip reports of our Louvre experinces in 2004 and 2011. We really liked the tour in 2004 and were very disappointed we could not do it in 2011. We visited the Orsay too but both times we just used the audio guides (which we thought were good) - I don't know if they have guided tours. Hope this helps.
From 2004 trip report:
Once inside, we found an English tour would start in 30 minutes so we bought the tickets and shopped until time for the tour which left from Salon 3. We picked up our individual headsets that made it easy to hear the guide speaking even when it is crowded and loud. We had an English lady (she reminded me of Katherine Hepburn) who gave us a very good tour. We saw Venus de Milo, Winged Victory, the Mona Lisa and many other fantastic things in the hour and a half guided tour.
From 2011 trip report:
B and A went to sign up for the English speaking tour (we really enjoyed this tour in 2004) while I checked my backpack. The tour was sold out for the day so we tried to sign up for the next day which is not allowed, you can only sign up for a same day tour. From what we could figure out from the people at the desk, the English tour sells out early every day. They recommended coming to the Louvre as soon as it opens in the morning and sign up for an afternoon tour. We could then leave and do something else and return in time for the tour. We opted to use the guide books I had in my backpack and do our own tour.
