GTG in Italy 10/13 -10/19

Seems a number of folks and Fodorites are heading to Italy in Ottobre so, inspired by other posters, how about a GTG?

We arrive in Rome the morning of the 13.

We leave Rome for Florence (stopping in Pisa) on the 15th.

Will be in Florence the 16 and depart for Venice (stopping in verona) on the 17th.

In Venice the 18th.

Head back to Rome from venice the 19th and fly out of Rome the morning of the 20th.

DesertDave - we just miss each other! I'll be in Bellagio on Oct 17th & 18th. Florence the 19th & 20th. Panzano 21-24th. Venice 25-27, Milan Milan 28-29th.

(note those are the nights I'll be staying in those cities, example: spending 3 nights in VCE, 25, 26, 27, leaveing the morning of the 28th)

Anyone else want to try? There are four of us traveling - two couples - late 20's and early 60's.

I'm game!
We're tour grouping it so I'm not 100% sure of times. We do some guided tours in the morning and the "afternoon" is free for indepndant exploration!

So, we should be available for anything from the evening on.

DesertDave - I get into Florence at about 1:30 from Venice on the 15th. And have reservations for Both the Uffizi (10:30am) and Accademia(3pm) on the 16th. So I am up for meeting up on either night. How about dinner?

I am staying at Pensione Ferretti in the Santa Maria Novella area. Where are you staying?

Dinner on the 16th would be great! We'll be staying in either the Raffaello or Jolly.

Having neve been to Italy (much less Florence) before, I have no ideas. If you have a favorite spot, that will work for me!

I am in the same boat as you. This is my first trip to Italy.

Any recommendations from other Fodorites?

We live in Atlanta, and my daughter, Melissa (27) and her husband, Brent (26) will be in Italy from October 15 until November 27. I am excited for them, but I am also a nervous wreck. They are newlyweds and this is their first time to Europe. He will be working thoughout Italy for 5 weeks. They are arriving in Milan the morning of the 15th, but we won't have their full itinerary for a few more days. They would love to meet people for dinner, if we can coordinate schedules. As soon as I have their itinerary, I will post it. If anyone is traveling in Europe between these dates, check back and hopefully we can make some plans. They are also wanting suggestions for "must-sees" in each location.

PS: I am also going to add this info as a new post.

Thanks,
Teresa (Mom)

I wouldn't worry, they'll do great and have a life-long memory.
Check here and at SlowTravel for some GTG's.
Have them do some searching at both sites for many "musts".

Hello Tom and Dave, a good and easy spot to meet in Florence would be in front of the Hotel Savoy which is on the Piazza della Republica #7, you cannot miss it. Right in the historical center. You could then decide where to go for dinner. Have fun and enjoy your time together.

Just wanted to point out that TRSW (Tom) and my group of 4 (two couples, late 20's and early 60's) are meeting at Il Latini in Florence on the 19th for dinner.

I hope your family will be there then ldscruggs! (there is another thread going on for gtg's a bit later in the month)
