Hi..I am planning to visit Gstaad for 2 days with family in May.
Can you suggest what all can be explored besides Glacier 3000.

We would also be visiting Interlaken and Lucerne.
Request you to suggest places to visit there as well.
For Interlaken, as of now we have shortlisted
Breinz cruise, Ballenberg Open-air Museum
Thun cruise
Harder Kulm(thru cable car)
Funky chocolate club Switzerland

Would you suggest any changes to it?

For Lucerne,
Lake Lucerne cruise
& a mountain excursion.

Any specific cruise that you would suggest?
Do cruise operate in case there is rain?
Also what other options can be explored around?

Hi shruti2802,

What does your family generally like to do? Are you people who enjoy strolling & shopping, or would you rather be hiking & walking?

And how many days, exactly, will you have in Gstaad? Will you be arriving one day & departing the next day (two half-days), or will you have three nights (two full days)?

There aren't any real sights to see in Gstaad, aside from the scenery. My favorite walk goes from the top of the Wispile mountain to Lauenen Lake, about 2h if I remember right. It's a gorgeous walk and not difficult, then you take the bus back to Gstaad.

There is a wonderful and very easy walk from Gstaad to Schoenried that takes about an hour or maybe 90 minutes.

Or you can visit Gruyeres and see the castle and visit the cheese factory, and follow it with a visit to Broc-Fabrique and see the chocolate factory.

Or you can see Rougemont, probably the prettiest village in the valley, but really not much to do or see other than the buildings.

Or you can walk from Gstaad to Saanen, about 45 minutes through beautiful rolling fields.

Or you can visit Spiez and its castle and Thun and its castle.

we will be in Gstaad to 2 nights..so practically 3 days..

We would ideally be strolling & walking around..

Read a lot about Spiez and Thun Cruise.Would like to go for these (Not sure both or one of them). Any idea if we need to do pre booking for these cruises or we can just go anytime? And what would be the duration for the same.

Hi again,

Two nights is really only one full day (half day on arrival, first night; one full day and second night; half day and departure).

You might do the walk to either Saanen or Schoenried upon arrival, as well as strolling around Gstaad and doing some window-shopping. Your full day could be either to Glacier 3000 (redundant in my view if you are also staying among the big mountains of the Jungfrau or Engadin regions) or to Gruyeres & Broc/Fabrique. If you have a few hours before you leave, you could visit Rougemont and/or Chateau d'Oex.

There is no pre-booking of the cruises on Lake Thun; just join the line and pay and board the ship.

About rain -- yes, the lake cruises on Lake Lucerne run in the rain -- the ferries are a major means of transport for the residents along the lake. I took one cruise in the rain and thought it was a perfect rainy-day activity. I could still see the immediate scenery well enough (shoreline and mountains), and I was warm & dry.

Gstaad is 80 min by train from Lake Geneva or 2 hrs from Aigle and the salt mines of Bex.
The mountain lakes of Lauenen, Arnen and Retaud as well as the cableway to Sanetsch Pass are other options.
