www.transportdirect.info suggests bus 252 from Heathfield to Tunbridge Wells, then bus 291 to Groombridge. It gives you maps with the bus stops on. But you'd need to check for the date you want to travel - I just tried it on a sample weekday.
No idea.
Like all heritage railways, the Spa Valley runs intermittently. Only you know when you're travelling.
The hotel's website gives most info and some links you need. Otherwise, www.transportdirect.info
I'm going to sound like a broken record - but a lot of your excursions would be a lot easier if you'd rent a car for at least part of your stay.
But - do the friends you are meeting have a car? If so, by far the easiest would be for them to pick you up in Tunbridge Wells.
