Grenoble or Marseille to the Italian Riviera/Amalfi Coast

Jump to last reply

Ciao - Please reply! I will be visiting Europe for my first time this July. I will be arriving in Paris, spend a few days and then either take the train to Marseille or Grenoble, spend a day & night and then rent a car to drive along the French Riviera if I go to Marseille to Italy/Italian Riviera/Amalfi Coast or drive from Grenoble to the Italian Amalfi Coast and spend 5 days somewhere there. I will be ending the trip/flying out of Rome, spending a few days there for site seeing before I leave.
I would greatly appreciate some input on which route/trip is most recommended. I want to see more scenic/beautiful locations - quaint towns, some hiking and beautiful, secluded beaches. I know all of this will be tough during the highest tourist month of the year but it is the only time I can visit. Wish I could stay for months and see everything! Total trip = 10 days and nights. I am also trying to decide if I should drive a car or take train/shuttle/bus transportation. No specific plans or place to stay other than I've got my flight ticket!
