Greek Islands/Athens September weather

Hello! I'm preparing our trip to Greece Sept. 2nd. Doing research on temperatures and weather for September, I find that my travel books state 84 - 86F as the high for the days and slightly cooler at night. Therefore, I was prepared to pack mostly summer clothes. But when researching posts on this forum, I found a wide variety of information. Some posters said it was warm but perfect on the islands and others that it was a little rainy and cooler. Others said Athens was cool. I'd appreciate your expertise. Thanks!

I'm sure all these reports are valid. It just goes to prove that you can't predict the weather. (In general) September is usually pleasantly warm but a bit windy at night. Take a windbreaker and maybe a light sweater and you'll be fine.

The islands will be a little cooler and windier than Athens, but early September is very pleasant, so pack your summer clothes and a jacket & light sweater as brotherleelove suggests.

Your travel books have it about right, but you can research actual weather history on Weather Underground Trip Planner. I have input Sep 2-15, and called up history for Athens and (without knowing which islands you plan to visit) Santorini. You can look up the stats at:

Thanks for looking those up, Heimdall (just so happen to be my trip days as well). I didn't know weather underground had such useful functionality.

Thank you both for your info.

Heimdall: I was familiar with the weather underground site but didn't know how to navigate it to get stats like these. I followed you path and now I know! Thanks!
