Greek Islands in November?
I have a flight to Athens booked in November - I know it's the off-season, but I would still like to see the islands, specifically Mykonos and Santorini, since I've heard great things about them. Is there nothing going on there in November and not worth going? I've tried to look for ferries to Mykonos and Santorini from Athens and couldn't find any - are none of them running? Is flying the only way to go? I appreciate your thoughts on this, thanks!

Practically the whole tourist infrastructure on Mykonos and Santorini shuts down at the end of October and doesn't reopen until sometime in April, so don't expect much to be going on. The weather will be cold and damp and possibly wet.

Would you go to Seattle or Alaska, just because you've heard great things about them (in summer)?
Not to shut your wishes down ... If I were flying to Athens, and have some time to spare, I'd look at a weather map in the hope of a lull in bad weather. Then maybe:
- fly to Santorini: you've got to have sun for Santorini's caldera rim towns, for a sunset view; and maybe for a peak at Akrotiri's Red Beach when it's empty, not full of people
- or to Chania for a glimpse of the harbor with the snow-covered mountains in the background
- or drive to Nafplio.
Heimdall, I agree with you. Perla's website is ... ONLY 60% advertising... and I suspect that anything offered is meant for next year's season.

Hi e419,
My family visited Greece in December of 2006. (It was the only place in Europe where we could arrange six frequent flyer tickets.) We rented in a house in the Peloponnese near Nafplio and had a wonderful time. One day we took a ferry to Hydra, and it was almost entirely shut down. THe hiking was still wonderful and the views spectacular, but if I had gone to this particular island for shopping or eating, etc. I would have been disappointed. Have you considered visiting the Peloponnese? It is spectacular and was not "shut down" for the season.
Just my thoughts-- You will have a great time no matter what.
