Greece trip: where to stay in athens, santorini and mykonos
Hi guys, so i have finally narrowed down to Greece and will buy tickets in a day or two (believe me tickets are a drag in july
- I was looking at a few places in Athens and I liked Hera hotel (www.herahotel.gr), Athens gate
- In Santorini, I am either planning to live in Oia or Perssia, not in Fira as its going to be highly touristy with cruise ships coming and going etc.
Oia- still unsure
Perissa - Smaragdi Hotel - Santorini Hotels - Perivolos, Perissa
- in Mykonos - I want to live close to the downtown
i found these : Mariettas, Nazos,..
Can you please provide your input or suggestions...
and also I am planning to travel from santorini to Mykonos though a superjet ferry..Is it a good option..?
Thanks

I am unable to find Flying Cat 4 on this particular date. The only departure I see is this one...
Is is normal to have just 1 departure per day, dont they have multiple timings?
1. THIRA(SANTORINI)-MYKONOS 04-07-2012, 11:30 04-07-2012 , 14:00 SUPERJET SEA JETS

We stayed at Perivolas a few years ago and didn't think- other than the outstanding view of the caldera- that it was worth the money. Our one-bedroom accommodation had very poor AC and the bed was uncomfortable. Of course all of this could easily have changed in the last two years,
but for that kind of money, I bet you can do better in Oia.

Unfortunately it appears that July 4 is one of the FC4's "no sailing" dates. Your only option is the SuperJet unless something else is added between now and then.

In Oia check Chelidonia Villas, Olympic Villas, Thea Studios, Rimida Villas, Filotera Villas, Lucky Homes, Theodora Suites, Lena's House and Villa Kallisti.

In Athens hotel Hera is a good choice, near to the Acropolis and the south entrance to the Plaka.
Athens Gate is an even better choice, you can have also a look at hotel Parthenon, Herodion and Philippos, they are all in the same neighbourhood and good hotels.

Please keep in mind that Mykonos is the most expensive Greek island, and the most expensive island of the Mediterranean according to statistics of 2011....
Here are some hotels that i would recommend and that are located close to Mykonos town :
Alexandros ,Despotiko, Anastasios Sevasti, Philippi, Adonis.
They are all within your price range

I stayed at the Herodian Hotel in Athens last summer. The rooms are fine, breakfast is includedm there is a great view of the Acropolis from the roof top lounge. You can walk to the New Acropolis Museum, practically around the corner, to the Acropolis and the Plaka (pedestrian area with shops and restaurants)and the metro station is nearby. Any of the hotels in this area would be fine for touring.
I also stayed at the Volcano View Hotel outside of Fira. its a lovely location, but you need to use the hotel shuttle, bus or taxi into town. Oia gets tons of tourists at sunset. but the town is not swamped with the cruises

Athens Gate is wonderful. We stayed there last summer. If I ever go back, I'll stay there again. A simple but very well kept hotel and reasonably priced, too.
The location may be the best in the city. Very convenient to visit the main attractions. We were able to go back, change and freshen up between museum visits or before dinner.
The view of the Acropolis from the rooftop is spectacular. You will enjoy the view tremendously at breakfast and if you decide to have other meals. You will be spoiled. We went to another restaurant that was highly rated on tripadvisor and boasted an Acropolis view. OMG, so poor compared to Athens Gate's view.

>>Oia gets tons of tourists at sunset. but the town is not swamped with the cruises<<
Sadly, they are now. We just returned from Oia (and other islands) and the town was flooded with cruisers. There were 3 or 4 ships in that day, others just two. The buses that bring them back and forth were in a standoff again on the road into town. This happened when we were there last year, too. There just isn't room for that much traffic - people or buses.

For Mykonos you might like Princess of Mykonos.. we stayed there(DD, DGD and DGS and self)for just over 140CDN 2 years ago. It was not july. however. This is a lovely hotel, a short walk to The beach, Stephanos(sp?) and the bus stop is right there also to the center of town. Quiet, pretty, good food and comfortable staff interaction..Would stay there again..
