Greece Tomorrow - Help with Airport to Ferry

Hello there,

We are off on another adventure tomorrow but I have a question.

We are arriving at 12:25 in Athens and want to make the 16:55 fast ferry to Naxos.

We are thinking of pre-buying our tickets tonight to save the hassle tomorrow but I am not sure we have enough time to get from the airport to the port 1 hour before the ferry. We plan to take the X96 bus.

Is this possible?

Thank you!! I promist a Bikerscott trip report!

You can buy your ferry tickets at the airport in the Arrivals Hall at Amphitrion Holidays between doors 2&3.

The Airport Express Bus to Piraeus takes about 1.25 hours so you have plenty of time to get there. With tickets in hand you don't need to be at the port an hour before departure. 20 minutes is sufficient.

You won't save any time or hassle by prebooking tickets. Either buy them at the airport as BLL suggests, or from the Hellenic Seaways ticket booth next to the ferry. That's the same ticket booth where you would retrieve the tickets had you prebooked. It takes just as long to issue prebooked tickets as to sell them on the spot.

better to buy at the port. just as fast and more fexibility; Haven't done it since the new airport opened but I wonder if it is faster to bus into Athens Syntagma and take the metro to the port or take the bus directly from the airport? Maybe not, but would be interested in knowing if there is a difference. Does anyone know if there is a direct bus from the airport to Rafina or just to Piraeus?

It's faster to buy your tickets at the airport since Amphitrion Holidays is on the same level as Baggage Claim and you won't have to stand in a long line like you would at the port.

It is NOT faster to bus to Syntagma Square and take a metro to the port. And Fyi-you wouldn't get off at Syntagma anyway, you'd get off at Monastiraki. Airport to Monastiraki takes 45 minutes. Transfer to Piraeus takes about 30 minutes because you have to change platforms. Time-wise it's about the same. Cost-wise it's a lot cheaper to take the bus directly from the airport to Piraeus.

Yes, there is a direct airport bus to Rafina.

Agree with brotherleelove. If anything the metro via Athens would take slightly longer, and you have to lug your bags between platforms.

The Rafina buses are operated by a different company (KTEL Attika) and leave from in front of the airport Sofitel. Tickets are sold on the bus.

Info on the green line of the metro :

There will be no connection between Omonoia and Piraeus on Saturday the 3rd and Sunday the 4th. of September due to works.
There will be a bus instead ( X23) from Omonoia to Karaiskaki Square in Piraeus.
I wouldn't like to search for that bus as a tourist with luggage.........
I agree with Brotherlee, it is way faster to buy the tickets from Amphitrion Holidays at the airport.
