Greece: Mykonos and Santorini each 2.5 days enough?

I have Monday morning to Friday night between mykonos and santorini. I am trying to split mon, tue wed till 11am in Santorini, take the 11am ferry and reach Mykonos at 2:30pm. Then wed evening, thu whole day and friday night head back to Athens...Is that ideal ? (It has to be Santorini first and Myk later as I have already purchased tickets)

I want to book hotels in a day or two, so the sooner the better

thanks

You get a good taste of both islands and get to spend a couple of nights on each. Sounds perfect to me.

ok thanks sassafrass..I was thinking that as Santorini is a bigger island maybe 3.5 days there and 1.5 days in Myk...Would that be fair?

Thanks

I did not get to spend a night in either place, but everyone who does says Santorini at night is magical, and I could see that it would be. I like staying longer in one place, even if I have to short change another, so that split might be even better. Both are beautiful (wish I was on either one right now) and you would still have one nt on Myk.

5 days is such a short time, especially when you take into account the hours wasted in transit between islands. You have to check out of your hotel, make your way to the ferry port, take the ferry to the next island, find your hotel, check in and unpack. Why not just stay on one island? 5 days will give you enough time to relax, fully enjoy your surroundings, and you'll have the time to get into the rhythm of island life.

We've just came back from 4 days in Santorini and had a great time there. By all means, 2.5 days are short but totally do-able.

You did not mention when you are arriving on Monday, but assuming late morning, early afternoon, I suggest you stay in Fira as it is central to the island, and is where the ferries come and go. Helps with the logistics when you have ot leave on Wednesday.

So you come in Monday, check out Fira then go up to Oia, check it out, watch the sunset, have dinner then head back. Tuesday rent a car, explore the rest of the islands including the wineries. Wednesday morning you can check out what ever you missed, or revisit places you want to see again before leaving. Totally feasible.

If you rent a car, it's for 24 hours so if you pick it up 10AM Tuesday, you can use it Wednesday since early in the morning until 10 when you return the car and roll into the ferries port.

Mykonos is even smaller so it's even more easily navigate.
