Greece Itinerary Suggestions Request

Jump to last reply

My mom and I are planning a trip to Greece and I would really love it if you can help me out with a couple of things.

First off, we will be staying in Athens starting the 24th of August till the 29th of August. during our stay in Athens, we were thinking of checking out the islands that are really close and would take less than a day to reach. So what are the islands and how can we get there?

After that, on the 29th we will be heading to Santorini where we're supposed to stay until the 1st of September. We were wondering if we should spend less time in Santorini and go to Skopelos since we will be leaving Greece on the 5th of September. We want to visit as many islands as possible, but our must go's are Skopelos, Santorini, and Corfou. We need a time/money saving itinerary, it's our first time visiting Greece but we want to discover as much as possible and we don't necessarily want to do a lot of touristy things like visiting monuments. We really just want to enjoy the scenery and beauty of the country. Please reply as soon as possible and if you have any other suggestions or additions to our plan please help :)

Skopelos, Santorini and Corfu are all in different directions and linked only via Athens. As you plan only 6 days for the visit of all 3 islands, the only solution is to fly (via Athens, of course), may be like this:
    Aug 29th: Athens dp 10.30 - Santorini ar 11.15, 105 EUR/OW
    Aug 31st: Santorini dp 17.40 - Corfu ar 22.40, 200 EUR/OW
    Sep 2nd: Corfu dp 14.20 Skiathos ar 21.15, 190 EUR/OW
Sep 3rd: Skiathos dp by ferry 12.05 - Skopelos ar 13.45
    Sep 4th: Skiathos dp 21.45 - Athens ar 22.25 70 EUR/OW
    or like this:
Aug 29th: Athens Bus Terminal B dp 6.15 by bus to Agios Konstantinos and by ferry to Skopelos ar 14.20
Aug 31st: Skopelos dp by ferry 16.15 - Skiathos ar 17.20, dp by plane 21.45 - Athens ar 22.25 (plane ticket 70 EUR/OW)
    Sep 1st: Athens dp by plane 8.50 - Corfu ar 10.00 (115 EUR/OW)
    Sep 3rd: Corfu dp 6.30 - Santorini ar 13.15 (180 EUR/OW)
    Sep 4th: Santorini dp 22.45 - Athens ar 23.35 (120 EUR/OW)
But never fly back from the Islands the day before your transatlantic flight. Plan at least 1 day at Athens in between.

Annabelle, your "must-go's" (which may be based on movies you've seen, or travel posters) are in three different island groups. In 11 days (u shouldn't really count arrival/departure days). What if someone told you, I'm coming to the US, I have 11 days on the Ground, starting in NYC. Besides New York, my other must-sees are Savannah, New Orleans and the Grand Canyon.

You cannot save both time & money, esecially since you are leaving in 6 days. No can do. Skip Corfu ... think about islands you can reach in 1-2 hours by ferrry from Santorini (such as Paros or Naxos or Milos). Naxos has great mountain scenery and super sand beaches (which Santorini lacks), and Milos has lots of scenery and opportunities to take sailing trip around island.

I hope you already have lodging arrrangements in Santorini & Athens. If you plan to pick up rooms upon arrival in other islands .... the best-located rooms probably will be full since you are arriving in High Season. At least, carry maps of the island when people offer u rooms, so you can tell where they're located. Sometimes the only rooms left are inconvenient, not near a bus line. And I expect you do not have an international driving permit, so you will not be able to rent a car.

Good luck! Have a nice trip!
