Greece + Italy | Itinerary Suggestions

Hi Guys,

We plan 14 days holiday from Singapore to Greece and Italy. Here is our plan roughly ; it will be great if you can suggest/comment on the plan.

D# Itinerary

1 SG to Athens

2 Athens

3 Athens to Santorini

4 Santorini

5 Santorini

6 Santorini

7 Santorini

8 Santorini to Rome

9 Rome

10 Rome

11 Rome to Amalfi Coast ( Train)

12 Amalfi Coast

13 Amalfi Coast to Rome( Train)

14 Rome to Athens

15 Athens To SG

Please let us know if this is overly ambitious. Thank for your help.

PS: We have already blocked SG - Athens return flight and hence that is fixed.
Except that we are flexible to amend to make it more doable.
Idea is to visit : Athens ; Santorini (Mykonos if possible) ; Rome and Amalfi Coast .
Kindly looking forward for your help on the same.

Regards

It would be better if you could have flown home from Rome but I understand that your flights are booked. I think your itinerary is fine although, if it were me, I'd take a day (or even two depending on ferry/flight times) from Santorini and add to Amalfi coast as you only have one full day there.

I don't enjoy flying much (stressful and soaks up lots of time) and you have a few flights in a short timeframe but not everyone feels as I do.

If possible I would look into travelling from Santorini to Amalfi coast and cluster your time in Rome to a single visit. That makes a long travel day to Amalfi coast but saves you moving hotels one extra time. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Similar possibility for your two stays in Athens. You'd have to weigh up some long travel days vs moving hotels an extra time.

If staying in Amalfi itself, consider travelling to Salerno and taking the bus or a ferry to Amalfi.

Lastly, you have a return flight to Greece. There is heaps to see and do if you decided to stay in Greece. If you see another opportunity to travel to Europe then I would think about leaving Italy to next time.

It would be helpful to know what time of year you plan the trip. In summer there are direct flights from Mykonos to airports in Italy, and of course connecting flights via Athens. If you wish to add Mykonos to your itinerary you could fly to Italy from there.

As you have only 2 weeks, you waste way too much time at Santorini.
Vueling has non stop flights from Santorini to Rome

Will this trip actually give you the time to see the things you want to see on this trip? 2 days is very, very little for Rome. 1 day, with bits to either side, is extremely little for the Amalfi Coast. I recommend that you get some good guidebooks (or spend some time with a few in your local library), identify the things you most want to see in each location, check their opening/closing times on the internet, and mark them on a calendar. Pencil in your transportation, add some time on either side (for getting to/from your lodging, checking in/out, packing/unpacking, getting oriented, etc.). Then see how things fit together. You might end up deciding to stay in Greece….

Is it possible for you to go right away to Italy after you arrive in Athens? I think it would be better to see Italy first. Then you go back to Greece and it is more relaxing and more simple to get home.

Where to spend your time depends on your interests, so I would not comment on how much you spend in one place vs. another at all.

The only comment I would have is that perhaps you should just confine your time to one country and avoid losing so much time to moving from place to place.

Since you have booked the return flight, I would suggest perhaps confining your travel to Athens, Santorini and one other island or Athens, Santorini and some time on the mainland visiting places like Delphi and the Peleponese perhaps.

The smaller the area you try to cover and the fewer moves you make, the more time you actually spend in places seeing and doing things.
