I am plannig a visit to Crete staying at Blue Palace for 4 nights then ferry (Flyingcat4) to Santorini at the Mystique in Oia for 3 nights then fly to Athens and home. I have rented a car in Crete and will rent a car for a few days in Santorini. I am interested in places to not miss (beaches, old real Greece of towns not rubble and places to eat). This Greece leg is after 9 days in Italy (Rome, Florence and 7 nights in a villa south of Pisa) so we will be in a relaxing mode. Love to hear about the things not to miss and authentic places to eat and see - we like food and wine but not a foodie. Thanks in advance for any help you have already helped in other threads on the ferry and car rental. Never been to either Greece or Italy.

In Crete go down to the south coast for a day trip; and go to Kritsa.
IMHO you are missing some of the best rubble in the world.
my wife and I just returned from greece and enjoyed every island we took a 4 night cruise on louis lines and a 5 day land tour with Insight Vacations and the tour of Greece is at the top of our many trips. The people were fantastic and the country is beautiful and the food very good.
