Great Hotels in Prague and Vienna?

my must stay hotels in Prague just might not be suitable for you as I usually stay well out of the city and usually in 3 star hotels with the occasional foray into 4 stars if I get a deal.
have you tried to make a shortlist?
If you do that I can maybe advise on some of the places in Prague.

I really enjoyed Kings Court hotel last year - close to Namesty republiky (nearly ON it actually).
Also at same place Hotel de Paris was ok, but less great.
I find hotels in Prague a good quality/price ratio : I paid about 100 e (very cheap compared to Paris rates).

It would help to know your budget and expectations.
For me a "great" hotel would imply very luxurious - the best (and possibly most expensive) in town in a very central location.
What do you mean by "great" and what are you willing to spend per night - a specific amount not "reasonable" which can mean anything?

My favorite hotel in Prague is the Hotel Pariz, I've stayed there twice now (I think they call themselves Hotel Paris now). Super location, very comfortable, good service. And the rates often aren't that bad for that level of hotel.

If I stay in Vienna I usually look up www.hrs.com and select a luxury hotel which offers a good rate. If you use the search criteria it is a quick and easy procedure. You see available hotels only, the price is displayed, distance to the city centre and if you click on the hotel's name you can see amenities, photos and reviews.
I would do the same for Prague.

I don't know your tastes, but if you like a pretty, comfortable, small boutique hotel, I recommend At the Golden Scissors http://www.uzlatychnuzek.cz/
I found it authentic, magical and friendly. The location is perfect -- on the island between old and new towns, accessible from a staircase in the middle of St. Charles Bridge. So you can be in the thick of things in two minutes, but the island feels peaceful and far from the crowds.

unclegus: Thank you so much for the info. Very helpful. I am trying to decide between Hotel Kings Court, Hotel Paris Prague or the Radisson Blu.
Which one sounds the best??
I will be travelling with my husband and daughter of 15. So the most important thing for me is cleanliness and space. I prefer King bed and a fabulous shower. It's a vacation for me, so I like to be pampered a bit. We don't mind trams. Of course, right in Old Town sounds the best, if it isn't too expensive.

NYtraveller: Totally understand. A "Great Hotel" to me is a 5 star at a 4 or 3* price.

I think I will leave it to you to decide over all what place offers you the best deal but will give my prefrences on location. I have not stayed in any of these hotels but know the various areas pretty well.
Personally I would discount Radisson Blu, not because of the hotel; but the location, central yes but if you are going to meet a stag Party or large groups of partying people you will find them in this area,there are several "adult " clubs in the area.Not that it is unsafe but likely to be busy and noisy at night.
Kings Court and Hotel Paris are both great hotels and the location is superb right behind the wonderful Municiple House. easy walk to Old Town square and also very easy to walk to get trams at metros at nearby Namesti Republicky, numerous shops(Big Palladium mall) cafes,bars and resturants in the area.
The Golden Scissors would probably be my choice as I just love the area it is in and always have a walk around there when I am in Prague. It is on Kampa Island just off Charles Bridge,whilst the bridge and the immediate streets around that area can be really busy ,take the steps off the bridge onto Kampa Island and you get some real peace and tranquillity.
You can access this area from other streets but it still is a lovey haven in the bustle of Prague, several nice resturants and bars in the immediate area but easy to walk onto the Charles bridge and get to other places.Public transport is a bit more of a walk but nothing major.
Hope this gives you something to think about but I think you would be fine with Kings Court or Hotel Paris if the Golden Scissors location is not ideal for you.

Just wondering when you are visiting , there are some tram works in the city at the moment and from what I hear quite a bit of work at Namesti Republicky

I absolutely loved the Aria Hotel in Prague. It was a splurge but worth it.
The Hotel Bristol in Vienna is very nice but again not cheap. It was a business trip so I don't know how much it was. I think it's somehow connected with Marriott in terms of using points but I'm not sure.
