Great hotel room in Madrid

First of all, my thanks to Maribel for her great Web site. I booked a superior room at Hotel Plaza Major (E80) based on her recommendation, although I wasn't able to get a room with a double bed--the 003 rooms. When I booked they sent me an offer for the penthouse at E120, and I ignored it. However, when we arrived the receptionist insisted on showing us the penthouse as well as the room that we booked, and offered us the former at E100/day since we were staying for six nights. The penthouse (aka the attic)is a very large, L-shaped room with sloping, beamed ceilings. One angle of the L has a queen-sized bed, wardrobe and refrigerator, and the other has two club chairs and a coffee table. Plus there's a terrace that looks over the rooftops of the city. Even at E120 it would have been a tremendous bargain. And the hotel is located in easy walking distance to all the tourist areas (Prado, Palacio Real, etc.). This is our best hotel find since the Hotel Gendarme Garni, Berlin, in 1997!
