Before investing money in updating your Garmin, think about buying a European navigation system. They work better in Europe.

Sorry, but it is only traveller1959's opinion that the Garmin does not work as well in Europe.
Most of the Garmin users who used their GPS's on the Continent were extremely pleased including me.
traveller1959 seemed to have had a bad experience using the Garmin in England.
We found it worked very well in Germany and Austria.
While traveller1959 seems to prefer the Tom Tom GPS, our taxi driver in Germany was unable to take us to the correct address using his Tom Tom but we were able to get there in just a few minutes using our Garmin Nuvi 670.
To each his own, but one person's experience is only that -- one person's experience.

Actually the thread that traveller1959 is referring to is http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35147245
And if the read the entire thread, you'll see that bettyk's remarks are echoed by others who had better experiences with Garmin (including mine).
